| | fire in the night approached bravely not scared of the other wolves. he walked up to them unafraid. his head high. his tail wagged excitedly to see more wolves to meet |
| | Peacemaker saw a wolf with brown fur and red wings and slipped closer. |
| | Redwillow quietly slipped from bush to bush, shadow to shadow, following the other wolves silently. "What a nice place," She thought to herself. |
| | Racing through the forest became more perilous as the terrain became uneven, but Avocet knew where she was going.
After a while, she came to a cluster of shrubs. She pushed through them. On the other side, lay a river surrounded by rocky cliffs. She walked over to one that had a cleft in it, large enough for a wolf to squeeze through.
"This was my pack's den," she explained as she shoved herself through the opening. The inside sprawled out into an almost cave-like shelter. |
| | Peacemaker followed the two wolves |
| | Avocet flinched as the rain hit her fur, letting out a startled yelp. She was about to run off but stopped herself. "I know a place where can take shelter!" she exclaimed, flicking her tail to tell Night Seeker to follow her. |
| | Peacemaker decided to fly down stealthily. |
| | "I see... I'm sorry." She stared at the grass for a good, long while, before meeting Night Seeker's gaze. "I lost my pack too. Not in the way you lost yours, but I just can't find mine." Avocet looked off into the distance, as if searching for answers. "Something must've happened, because they weren't at their den." |
| | Peacemaker decided to follow the smoke wolf to his den. One of the alphas has heard of the den |
| | She tilted her chin up for a moment, "Fair point." Then abruptly flew into her next question, "Don't you have a pack to return to? I find it surprising that you're so willing to talk to a stranger such as myself." |
| | Avocet listened with undivided attention, then when Night Seeker finished speaking, she gave a thoughtful hum. "Like running in the sky," she concluded. "I'd argue, though, the difference between flying and running, is that on ground, you have to look where you put your paws." |
| | "Night Seeker - a fitting name," she commented. She suddenly gave a stretch of her front legs, jaws parting in a yawn, before she fell into a sitting position. "Tell me, what's it like to fly? To see the forest from up above?" she inquired, referring to his wings, then she joked, "Do the elk look like ants?" |
| | Her ears pricked with interest, as if the words he spoke were ones she never heard. Despite her strong presence, she usually flew under the radar when surrounded by other wolves. She was much better at conversations one-on-one, like the one she was having now.
"If you insist," she gave a shrug of her shoulders, "I guess we should get properly introduced then. I'm Avocet, and you are?"
| | When he bowed his head, she returned the action. She then bent her head low and finished off the other half of the rabbit.
Licking her jaws clean, she looked to the wolf again. Her tail awkwardly flicked over the ground, stirring up a leaf or two that had been on the forest floor before she stood there.
"I suppose I'll be on my way, then," came the sound of her voice. It was quieter then, as opposed to the usual firm tone. |
| | With silent precision, she wordlessly placed her paw against the rabbit's side and shoved it towards the wolf, allowing him to take the first bite.
"Go on," she encouraged. "Just make sure to save some for me," she joked, a diversion from her solemn behavior. |
| | Avocet noted the wolf's warning about the moon cycle and low number of prey. She determined that he wasn't a threat, otherwise he would've attacked her by now (not to mention he was giving her helpful advice), so she lowered her guard.
She cleared her throat, thinking of a way to continue the conversation. "Would you like to share this?" She gestured to the rabbit again, this time with a flick of her tail.
