Rixen tried to stifle a chuckle but it didn't work well. "Wow, did someone put yak dung in your eggs this morning?" He dramatically stumbled backwards when she shoved past him. Already deeming this an interesting interaction. He arched a brow when he noticed her face twist slightly in frustration. Well, more than it had been already.
"Read anything interesting, princess?" He blinked at her innocently as he stood a few paces away, observing her. Her hands yanking through many of the scrolls he'd just read. But her last question made him bristle slightly. His joking mannerisms gone.
"What makes you think I have a dragon?"
He queried, keeping his tone light but he was unsure about revealing that information to her. If she was from Shandalar, they didn't agree with Aelondraean ways in regard to dragons.
'Astryn, keep an eye out.'
Rixen warned the dragon with a quick thought. Astryn's rumble in agreement rattled around his head. His amber gaze watched her hands search through the drawers of desks. Trying to find something for the door, no doubt. He turned to a nearby table, helping (or just trying to appear busy). His hands skimmed over lots of items in the drawers. Tucked away neatly until his fingertips brushed against a crumpled letter. The wax seal on it was broken. The letter had been read, but stored away. The seal on it what caught his eye, making his blood run cold. That was the seal of the King of Aelondrae. What was a letter from him doing way out here in a hidden basement in a watchtower on the Shandalar border? On that note as well, why were there so many Shandalarian documents in here?
With a slight tremble of his fingers, he pulled the letter free from its spot in the drawer. Unfurling it to skim his eyes over the words.
"Ensure no one is left alive that could talk. Hide what you need. I'll make sure Ashbane is on a fool's errand to give you plenty of time.
~ Caxar Pailon "
Rixen's gaze sharpened as they narrowed in on his King's signature. His gaze lingering over his last name etched in ink. He clenched his jaw and shoved the letter into his leathers. He and this stranger just stumbled upon secrets they weren't supposed to find, if he was so bold to guess. He would tell her about the contents of the letter, later probably. But he didn't want her knowing his last name at the moment. He wasn't sure who knew where his last name belonged and that was a fight he didn't want at the moment.
'Rixen, what's wrong? I can feel your anxiety.'
Astryn's deep voice reverberated through his mind as he shook his head, clearing his thoughts.
'I'm fine. Just read something interesting. See if you can blast open this door. I'm done down here for now.'
Rixen stretched his shoulders, looking back to Ciaro. "Well, hypothetically, why do you need to know if I have a dragon?" he questioned with a slight tilt of his brows. Amber gaze shimmering with a mischevious glimmer.
He didn't have long to linger on his question before the sound of wood being splintered echoed through the room. The charred, splintered mass that had blocked their way out was now collapsed on the floor. Revealing an unkempt opening. Plants and rocks tried to swarm the doorway, probably why they couldn't push through it on their side. But the force of the blast from the fire had ruined any hanging vegetation and left the rocks looked scarred. They would still have to clamber out of the hole, but it was more open than it was. Astryn was just outside waiting for him too.
