Evie grumbled to herself as she continued to follow the woman, waiting for an opportunity. This was taking too long, she should've been done and on her way home now. She reached a hand up to her nose, fixing her crooked septum piercing. It was only a matter of time before she got an angry phone call from her mother, yelling at her and telling her to hurry up and get home.

Often times she wished she could've just been born into a normal family. Actually, scratch that, she wished all of the time. She focused too much on the 'what if's' and the 'what could've beens' instead of whatever was going on in her life. Evie paused for a second, wondering if she should even continue with this. She could always find someone else, right? No. It was already too late, she needed blood and she needed it now.

She continued walking again, maintaining her pace. As the woman walked to the side of the street and waited for her to pass, Evie felt herself growing more irritated by the second. As she passed, she met the woman's eyes and returned the nod with a warm smile. Whenever she was out of sight, she ducked into an alleyway and slammed her back against the wall, bony shoulderblades colliding with brick. It hurt.

She stared out into the street, watching as a stoplight turned from red to green. Evie made sure she wasn't visible to anyone who passed by and peered into the alley. If the woman went this way, she would grab her as she passed, drink her blood and then simply let her go. The letting go part was only if her identity remained unknown, though. There were strict rules everyone in the family had to follow, and keeping their identity hidden was one of the big ones. If their victim did see them, they had to kill them, unfortunately.

So far, Evie didn't have to do so. She hoped to keep it that way, but something told her that might change soon. Peering out into the street, she began to fiddle with the rings on her fingers as she waited. She didn't have the heart to do this, but it was save herself or inconvenience someone else.

Evie turned her gaze up to the sky, where she could make out faint stars. Stars weren't common in the city, but she could see them from her home. The stars and constellations are one of her favorite things, she enjoys stargazing and can name every star in the sky. The lights from the stoplights flickered in her eyes as she glanced back out into the street, tapping her fingers against the wall impatiently.

(you're all good!)

As the woman passed Salem and disappeared into the night, so did the incessant prickling at the back of her neck. She found it weird that the woman made her so uneasy when there visibly wasn't any reason to feel so. Relieved to no longer be burdened with anxiety, she takes a final drag of the cigarette before dropping and smothering it under her shoe.
Then, Salem tucks her hands in her pockets before continuing down the street. While walking she looks upwards at the faint sillhouetes of stars struggling to pierce through the veil of smog laid over the city skyline. Not much to look at. Salem shrugs and continues on her way.
She felt a lot like those stars, suppressed undrer a smoky veil. Work, eat, sleep, go out on weekends...rinse and repeat. Just the same mundane cycle. Any possibility to shine smothered by the banal routine of everyday life. Salem always wanted to do something import with her life. Make a splash. Though, as of now she was just a glorified babysitter for the wealthy during the day and a font of meaningless small talk on the weekends.
"Well...this was one hell of a way to use up my weekend...being alone and afraid. Going out is supposed to make you forget the bullshit going on. Not cause more of it." She grumbles and shakes her head and continues walking. At least for now that incessant tingling sensation was gone, and she could start finding her way back home.

Evie took one more quick glance at the sidewalk and then pulled out her phone, checking the time. So, she had more time than she originally thought. The hums of the cars passing by and the sound of something rustling in a bag next to her distracted her from her plan. She crouched down next to the bag and peered inside, spotting a cat that appeared to be stuck.

Evie carefully lifted the cat out of the plastic bag, gingerly setting it down on the ground. She loved cats, they were also among her favorite things. Probably her most favorite thing, actually. Running a hand along the cat's scabbed head, she smiled sadly. For a minute she thought before sticking her hand in her pockets again.

Of course, there was a stray cat treat. She always had treats in her pockets for her own cats so there was usually one left over. She gave it to the cat and gave it one final pet before she stood back up. It ate the treat, then blinked at her strutted off into the darkness of the alleyway. Evie refocused herself, and there she saw the girl approaching the alley.

It was only a matter of time now. This would be quick and easy, rarely did someone ever fight back. They were usually too shocked to understand what was happening and just froze up. Evie pressed her back against the wall again, sucking in a deep breath of air before releasing it. It was almost as if she was nervous to be doing this. It was a busy Saturday night, so obviously there was a reason to be nervous.

She could only hope that the young woman wouldn't scream or fight or anything like that. As she leaned to slightly peer out of the alley, she clasped a hand over her chest to hold the necklaces in place. She couldn't risk the woman hearing her. Her heart raced in her chest, and for a minute she feared that it could be heard. As the woman began to pass the alley, Evie leapt out and grabbed her, clasping a hand over her mouth and wrapping the other one around her waist. She quickly pulled her into the shadows, her grip on the woman tightening.

Salem continues to mull over her thoughts as she walks down the dimly lit street. She notices a cat, but does not think much of it. "Didn't scare me this time." She chuckles to herself and takes another step forwards before the joy instantly drains out of her expression. The feeling is back. That faint, static prickle taunting the back of her neck. Though, she doesn't have the luxury to process the sensation before she is swiftly pulled back into the alleyway.
"Mmph!" Salem's surprised shout is muffled by the hand clasped over her mouth as she is enveloped into the darkness of the alley. Salem is by no means a seasoned fighter, but she's strong for her size. She sharply twists her shoulders and drives an elbow into the ribcage of her assailant. With the grip on her slightly loosened, Salem attempts to wriggle away. Though, her assailant is stronger than anticipated and manages to reel her back by the waist.
"Ack....get the fuck off me!" Salem manages to say before thrashing against the unknown figure. She manages to turn to face her attacker before being slammed back into the alley wall with the hand quickly re-clasping around her mouth to mute her speech.
As her eyes rapidly adjust to the dim light, she catches the glint of a metal chain and quickly recognizes her assailant as the woman walking on the street behind her. Salem's hazel eyes shine with a mixture of shock and ferocity and she fruitlessly continues to struggle underneath the woman's surprisingly strong grasp. What do you want?? Salem is rendered unable to speak, but her eyes communicate the message as she intently glares down her captor.

Evie was quickly shocked as soon as the woman started to thrash in her grasp and fight back. She refused to let go, though, as it was already too late. She couldn't seem to be able to steady the woman and get her to be still, which only caused an intense amount of anger. Her grip tightened even more to the point where she was basically squeezing the poor woman.

As the woman drives an elbow into her ribcage, Evie's eyes widened and she let out a small wheeze. She almost let go for a minute, but quickly regained her composure. Now that just made her even angrier. "Stop fucking struggling, you little-" but she was cut off whenever the woman turned to face her. She slammed the woman against the wall and glared down at her, taking in her features for the first time.

The light glinted in her pale green eyes as she scanned the woman's face, and suddenly her anger died down. She was younger than Evie, maybe by a few years or so. Evie ran her tongue across the impossibly sharp fangs in her mouth, which took over where her canines were supposed to be. She caught the woman's gaze and her expression immediately softened. Never had she felt so bad for a victim until now.

Unfortunately, this one wasn't going to be leaving alive tonight. In one swift motion, Evie moved herself so that she was now behind the woman with one arm wrapped around her waist, and the other placed gently on her neck. "Let's make this easy, okay? Stop struggling." She spoke softly, whispering it in her ear so that only she could hear it.

Evie wasn't too sure how she was supposed to feel in the moment. Her identity was already revealed, and the woman was still fighting.

It only annoyed her now, but it's not like she could just remove herself from the situation. Evie glanced down at the woman in her grasp, half expecting to be met with a wall of profanities since her mouth was now uncovered.

Salem continued to struggle in vain against the vampire. Though, after several moments, she realizes the other woman is simply too powerful. Her body relaxes slightly as she intently peers into the woman's pale green eyes. She notices the softening of her expression...but also the fangs. Salem knew she was in danger, but perhaps this person could be reasoned with.
Before Salem could fully process these thoughts, the vampire sweeps behind her and is now holding her throat. The woman's soft command was both soothing and terrifying at the same time. She subconsciously began relaxing into the other woman's embrace, but realized what was happening and forced herself to resist the strange charm placed over her. Salem's heart races as she attempts to think of a solution. You can't fight her off...but if you dont stop this, you're going to die. Is this really how you want to go? No? Then do something, you idiot!
Once the vampire lowers the hand from her mouth, she swallows nervously and shifts positions slightly. "Y-yes...let's make this easy. Wouldn't want things to get out of hand...more than they already have at least." Salem chuckles nervously.
"I apologize, I must have bumped too closely into you. My depth perception has been total shit and I've been paranoid the whole night. I think someone spiked my drink because I'm having the strangest hallucinations right now that you've got, like, these giant fangs and plan to gut me open and leave me for dead in this alleyway. Which is totally nuts, right??" Salem chuckles nervously again. "I mean...you're a great looking person. A reasonable person. I'm sure I am just off my rocker and you'd never do anything like that...and I appreciate you putting up with me!"
"Perhaps, you could let me go now to sleep this off? Honestly the wildest bender of my life. I'm sure i'll completely forget everything that happened here by the morning." Salem chuckles again. "So...what do you say? Sounds like the easy path to me." Salem attempts to keep calm, but there is a hint of pleading at the end of her last sentence. Come on, lady... you've got your out. Don't be a killer tonight. Salem thinks to herself as she stands there anxiously awaiting the Vampire's response and a hand still gently clasped around her throat.

Evie allowed her grip on the women to loosen as she stopped fighting. She thought about how she was going to be able to do this and then leave before anyone can notice a body. After all, it was common in this city to see bodies in alleys. They all mostly died from the same reason, though, and that reason wasn't vampires. She felt the shorter woman begin to relax in her arms for a second and that's when she started to feel bad.

As she began to speak, Evie sighed softly. "It's a little too late for that, honey. How can I trust you not to report me?" She questioned, her tone soft. She used the hand she had on the woman's neck to move some of her short hair out of the way, gingerly tucking a strand behind her ear.

Evie was torn. Should she just get this over with and let her go, or just end it here? She thought for a few seconds, and then made her choice. Her hand now moved to the woman's jaw, gently moving her head slightly to the side. She lowered her head and used her fangs to prick the woman's neck, and finished her business as quickly as possible. She never knew if this process hurt the people or not, so she didn't exactly feel too bad about that part. "If only you hadn't fought, it would've been that quick."

Evie shook her head, using her thumb to wipe away a few drops of blood from the spot on the woman's neck. She turned the woman around in her grasp so that they were now facing each other. Evie couldn't help but feel bad, she was a pretty woman. And younger, too. At only 25, Evie felt as though she had lived the entirety of her life already, as most vampires had a different life span than humans.

She was born a vampire, so she aged, but her body or face would never age. But this woman was younger. She had a whole life ahead of her, and that was just going to be ripped away from her. Evie took the woman's pleading from earlier into consideration, but she knew she couldn't just let her go. If only there was some way she knew there was some way this woman could be trusted.

Salem scoffs when the woman suggests she would report what happened. "Me, go to the police? Even if I wanted to, they'd never listen to or help me. They'd just say I was high, seeing things... or had it coming for some reason or anthother." Salem frowns and furrows her brow as she fights back the formation of a tear in her eye. She wasn't lying. If she somehow walks away from this, she feels like the story is far too outlandish for someone to take seriously. The feeling of Evie gently tucking her hair back created an unsettling chill down her spine and she knew he luck was up.
"The truth is, I don't have anything to make you trust me. And, even if I did...you've made up your mind already. Just get it over with.." Salem slips a hand into her right pocket and braces herself as the fangs sink into her neck. The sensation is similar to a stinging pain coupled with a strangely euphoric after-effect. Salem's right arm shifts slightly as she seemed about to remove something from her pocket. Though, she decides against it as she feels her blood being drained by Evie.

As Evie finishes drinking, Salem begins feeling woozy from the loss of blood and slumps slightly into the other woman's arms. Though the adrenaline of what just happened, of still being alive, gives her the strength to keep standing. Salem then makes eye contact with the other woman and slowly removes her hand from her pocket, revealing a switchblade gripped tightly in her hand. "I doubt I could have killed you...but at least fuck your pretty face up. Plunge the blade into your neck...go for the eyes...leave you something to remember me by..." Salem then drops the blade and allows it to clink against the concrete alley floor.

"But I didn't. I banked everything on the fact that I thought you didn't really want to kill me. If you want trust, that's the best I can offer." The adrenaline hike begins to subside as Salem sways and begins to feel incredibly woozy. "Though, if this is just part of some sadistic game to give me false hope...just fucking kill me already." With that, the loss of blood coupled with the genuine fear of death overtakes Salem. She wavers on her feet before collapsing unconscious into the arms of the vampire.

Evie patiently listened as the woman spoke, and she just simply tilted her head. She felt her slump down so she held her a bit closer, now shaking her head. No, she couldn't kill her. She couldn't kill anyone for that matter, she just didn't have the heart to. As the woman pulled a switchblade from her pocket and maintained eye contact, Evie raised a brow. "Killed me? You could've. I'm not immune to stab wounds, silly." She couldn't help but let out a little laugh, despite the whole situation.

Of course, she should've figured the woman had some sort of weapon on her. As she spoke again and then fell unconscious, Evie frowned. Now what in the world was she going to do about this? She thought for a hard second, and then decided on a plan. "Lord.. what's everyone gonna think?" She grumbled. Evie hoisted the woman over her shoulder with ease, and then stared down at the switchblade she dropped. Maybe she'd want it back. So she leaned down and picked it up, sliding it into her own pocket.

She peeked out into the street to make sure no one was coming before she left the alley, making her way back to her parked car. Some people she passed on the street gave weird looks, and the others minded their own business. Upon reaching her car, she pulled her keys from her pocket and unlocked it. She opened the back seat and layed the woman down in it, using a shirt that happened to be on the seat to put under her head.

She carefully shut the door and then slid into the driver's seat, starting up her car. Traffic wasn't too bad tonight, thankfully. Evie turned on the radio in an attempt to drown out her thoughts, which worked until she glanced in the mirror to make sure the woman was okay. She made sure to drive carefully as she left the city. The house wasn't too far away, but was on a backroad in the middle of nowhere. Evie was soon parked in the driveway and leaned against her car.

This was crazy. She sighed as she opened the backseat and picked the woman back up, this time carrying her in her arms. Thankfully she was stronger than the average human so she didn't struggle at all. Evie unlocked the main door to the house and to her surprise, nobody was there. Usually was someone in the living room or the foyer, but there was no one. She didn't bother to look for anyone and just went straight upstairs to her room. She laid the woman down in her bed and thought for a minute.

Evie went to her bathroom and switched on the light, rummaging in the drawers before pulling out a bandaid. She really needed to organize those better. She went back to the woman and stuck the bandaid over the little marks in her neck and then went to her closet, pulling out a hoodie and sweatpants. Evie neatly folded them and put them on the nightstand beside her bed, and pulled the switchblade from her pocket and laid it on top.

Her bed wasn't made, so there was just loose blankets everywhere. She took one of them and pulled it over the woman. The light in the room was dim, due to the only lighting being some fairy lights on the wall. Evie took one last glance at the woman and then left her room, shutting the door softly behind her.

It was several hours before Salem stirred awake. As she returns to consciousness, she slowly sits upright and rubs her pounding head. Part of her was hoping the events from last night were simply a bad dream. Though, her hope was shattered as she opens her eyes to realize she is in a strange bedroom. "What the...?" This created more questions than answers. If the vampiric woman didn't want to kill her, why not just leave her in a ditch somewhere? Why take her to a room? Is this her room? Or, some compound she holds kidnapped people in? Or, am I just fucking dead??

With her mind racing, Salem slowly gets to her feet. She is still woozy from the blood loss and blinks a few times to gain her bearings. She examines the aspects of the room she is in and notices the neatly folded pile of clothing with her blade rested on top. "What the...?" Salem picks it up and inspects it before slowly setting it back down. Why would she give me this back? Is that suppposed to taunt me? What is this woman's deal?

Looking at the poor state of her current clothes, she decides to put on the sweats laid out for her. She walks to a floor-length mirror on one side of the room and gingerly slips off her shirt from last night. There is significant bruising along the sides of her arms and along her spine from being slammed against the wall and restrained by the vampire during her struggles. Salem also notices the small adhesive bandage on her neck and gently runs a finger across it. "...What did you just get yourself into?" She quietly asks herself as she changes into the clean clothes and tosses the old ones in a corner of the room. This strange vampire woman was an enigma to her. She was predatory but strangely also somewhat kind? Salem is confused by it, but will also try to utilize this woman's nature to the best of her advantage.

After getting dressed, she walks to the door and turns the knob to see if she is locked inside this room.
