:o I think I remember you mentioning the service dog bit before! Perfect then, I'm glad you did your research! I sound like a broken record sometimes when people ask me about getting a new dog haha
No worries at all, happy to help! Not sure VetPay will be a thing where you are but there must be something similar. We also have "Afterpay" here which can be used to pay for pretty much anything i.e. plane tickets, groceries, retail, food etc without interest. I think an equivalent in the UK is Klarna? Not sure about other places but definitely do some snooping around that kind of payment method. And call up clinics to see if they have their own payment plan option!

Yeah, I go to Banfield, and their prices can be a bit steep. They have this OWP plan that's, like, $35/month.

Trust me, I made sure to get all information on the parents, they had all their tests and shots done, tested negative for genetic hip dysplasia, and they're Working Line. I got the pup to be a service dog, so I needed to make sure he would be good healthwise. And I'll have to check out VetPay! That sounds like a godsend!

Also another note, your clinic charges for the consult AND the C5? That's a little brutal. We just charge for the injection, not the visit unless it is booster puppy shots purely because Owners tend to have more questions to ask than just coming in for the shot.

Aww a gsd, so cute! I would recommend it for now then, considering the vet visits. I'm not sure what the laws are like for you, but with desexing as well, that can cost a bit for a big dog [the price is calculated from weight because of the drugs used is by weight] so I think it would suit you. Side note, as he gets older, GSD are a little prone to lumbar spine and hind limb issues. Mostly nerve based or muscle weakness, something to do with that sloped posture they have. So in the coming years get onto that! It will benefit you haha Oh as well, not sure if where you are has something similar or not but in Aus we have something called "VetPay" which is like a service that you pay the vet bill back in fortnightly chunks :)

Thank you! I have an 8-month-old GSD (as of yesterday! He's getting so big so fast!), and I need to get him his DAPP. He would have had it by now if I had the funds, so now he has to get the initial shot again, and then get the booster a couple months after that. The shots aren't too expensive, it's that mixed with the in-office visit cost that drives it up. $102.06 for this visit. Not too bad, but it could be better with insurance, I think.

Hi there! Vet med girlie pop here. I think that pet insurance is important IF 1. you have a young [0-4 years] dog, or an old [10+] dog. Lots of vet visits and things you can claim, especially older dogs when they start getting arthritis etc with the ongoing meds. 3. If you have a breed susceptible to genetic conditions. I.e. respiratory issues with brachycephalic, allergies with oodles, IVDD in sausage dogs and so on.
However, an alternative could be to set aside $10-20 per pay check into a pet fund so if something does happen, then you can use that instead of insurance ^^
