When I used to actually train them j would use team heals.

That is the best way to go about it. Just highest offensive. I have like 120 blue jay feathers. So I just explore till one team is "dead" and move on to the next team, when I run out of wolves I blue jay feather them and keep on keeping on.

The higher level you explore the better training you'll have AND the more mushrooms you'll make. The best training you can do is on higher levels, just make sure you have full cp.

Click on the wolf, scroll down, manage wolf, retire wolf

Make sure its wolves you dont want because you cant get them back

To "release" wolves you retire them, which essentially kills them or sets them free. You click on their page, go down
