You don't necessarily have to get battle wolves. For example, when I started out, since I used to play a long time ago I knew to use my 1000 new player CP to max out those important stats on my two starter wolves (my alphas), and right from the start they were hitting really well, without any battle experience whatsoever. You can probably get 200+ talent wolves for pretty cheap, honestly, which would be a good place to start! It would definitely make it easier than wolves with 0 CP.
