"So small." the Alpha growled.
"But look at his paws," his mate murmured, nudging the pup's side.
The Alpha huffed, his colorful shoulders rippling with muscle. "He doesn't belong here."
His mate slowly met his scornful gaze, her pale eyes cautious and hard. "I claim him. I will raise him as my own." She tilted her chin, daring him to fight with her.
The Alpha growled. "Very well. But he is no son of mine."
The Alpha's mate lowered her head to meet the pup's pale blue eyes. "An Alpha's love is that of a protector, little one," she murmured as he stared up at her. "They will not lower themselves to acts of love since they require submission on both ends." She licked the weak black pup's forehead, supressing a smile. She knew her words would not be understood, but she had no one else to confide in.

Avice has a very neutral personality. He doesn't have a problem with taking orders, and you won't find him anywher in an uprising. His packmates constantly change their minds on whether or not he cares about anything. The amount of devotion he shows to the pack is almost unrivaled, but they've seen him in other instances, when he let valuable pack members run off for days on end without telling anyone. Either he knew when they were coming back or didn't care if they did. He's very much a background character in the pack. Nevertheless, he's managed somehow to hold the young Alpha's attentions without accepting them or denying them.
