Character Description
Biography
Living on the edge can often make things dull and lifeless, or you always get the grip of adventure and never get any sleep, for always you need to keep a sharp eye out for any possible danger. Most perish, especially if it happens to them at a young age. Whether it be to hypothermia or starvation, deaths are quite common when you find yourself alone in the vast world. Not for this young wolf however, despite his rather unaffectionate and cold upbringing. Most pups were fortunate to be born into a pack, with many caregivers and food to help them grow up strong and healthy, knowing love and responsibility. Blake was born from two unknown wolves and had been discarded as a pup. Presumably his mother did not want the burden of another life to deal with, but Blake remained optimistic that she knew what was best for him and by leaving had given him the strength for the road ahead. He remained alive and healthy enough, his pelt attracting interest from animals and humans alike, though he maintained a discreet distance by using his stealth to slip away with a piece of food before anyone noticed. Maintaining relations with others when you were a loner was an often difficult task, so he stayed by himself and only socialised if he came across another animal. Which, in winter, was a rare sight to have and he often wandered the freezing snow trails alone, immersed in his own thoughts while trying to remain alive.

He had taught himself how to hunt, which was no easy task, losing many chances of prey. It was mainly his gift of stealth and belief that things would turn out okay in the end that kept him moving onwards. Summer was the season he most looked forward to, from the never-ending sources of prey to the cool water he could lap from in the brooks. He managed to find a little strip of territory no other wolves or beasts inhabitated, though often had to drive out sneaky coyotes or ever-hunting wild cats that would have loved to kill him and take all his stored prey as well. Each night, he would look up at the stars and wonder whether his parents were up there or in some forest, just like him, trying to stay alive. Blake nurtured any baby animals that came along his way, not because he felt for them, yet there was some sort of instinct instilled that made him then around if he started to walk away, and treat the animal till it could move on.

Seasons changed without him realising which one he was in, until he looked a his reflection in a pond and was startled to see a fully grown, honey-colored wolf staring straight back at him, well-defined muscles bulging under his fur and his face a white mask like untouched snow. Had he really grown up that much? Doing a little circle, he nodded to himself and sat back down, chest slightly heaving. Reflecting on the little scrap of a pup he once had been caused a soft chuckle to slip from Blake's throat. If only his parents could see him now, taking care of himself and caring for others whenever an opportunity came. He missed the brief caress of his mother's tongue or closeness in general with any living creature. He was not meant to live in solitude and vowed solemnly to himself that one day that would change. And it would have to be soon, otherwise Blake would start to lose sight of what he really wanted in life.

Some time after this, he stumbled across a group of wolves, obviously in a pack, looking about the area he usually roamed. Hackles raised slightly in alarm at the intruders, he cautiously made his way towards them, ready to shift his weight and roll to the side if an attack suddenly happened. He would then either kick out at the lunging wolf or roll again to get on his feet and deliver a hard bite to their neck or a slash to their muzzle. Either would hurt and ensure the wolf would leave him in peace. Yet on closer inspection, the wolves did not appear to be violent nor having any visible motive to hurt him. In fact, when he dared to go even closer and talk with them, they actually seemed quite friendly, so he kept going back to see with the trio that obligingly came around every few days, until deciding to stay with them for a while, permanently if possible. Blake had been starved of attention or closeness with others that it seemed like an absolute blessing. And he would continue to feel that way for about 4 years, till he eventually grew bored of seeing the same faces and caring for the new pups. Granted, it was better than what he had been doing as a loner, but Blake did have to face some serious facts and realizations. He would not be getting any younger and if this was not going to be his true pack, he would need to find out the one he would be able to put his heart into and work hard for it.

Personality
After a day or two, he finally set off for a nearby pack he had heard of that could use an extra few paws. By that point he was only a new fighter, but hoped to still hunt and provide for them. With a nervous hop in his step as he made the half-day journey it would take to reach there, Blake was not expecting to see...this. Trees were in bloom even in the late summer air, their leaves showing off to its friends that it grew the biggest over the past week. A few birds tentatively chirped, but a nearby frog croaked even louder in protest to their noise. It was obvious that in any other season it would be silent and empty looking, though he was thankful he got to see the area as it was in that moment. Shadows flickered farther in the distance, between the trunks of trees they weaved and danced, most likely young wolves trying to hunt. Blake guessed the only reason he hadn't been attacked yet was because he didn't enter stealthily. Instead he set a normal and cautious pace, a bark sounding from his throat. Immediately the two biggest silhouettes veered off and ran in a different direction, briefly reminding Blake of old stories the elders in his other pack used to tell to the young pups. He had listened to them as well; both out of curiosity and because he was watching the mischievous siblings try and fight each other whenever the old wolf had finished one story and was about to move on to another one.

One stuck true with him. It was about how the Ancestors came back down from time to time and inhabited the bodies of regular wolves in order to brighten up the world a bit. Blake wanted to believe that he was one of the Old Ones and had been sent here to help other wolves. Even if that wasn't true, it was an honorable code to live by and just like that day he stared at his reflection, he vowed to live with compassion, love, and to be a provider for his pack. Now he just needed to meet them and hopefully be accepted. So, he waited till the cracking of sticks drew his attention to a gray male and a similiar looking female, walking towards him. Gulping, Blake took a deep breath and copied them, though he stopped almost immediately, once he felt he had gotten at a respectable enough distance.

Thankfully, the introductions worked out in his favor. They could put a wolf like him to use, the alpha male had said and Blake got formally introduced to all of the new pups and other pack wolves almost immediately. The alpha pair sent him out to kill a boar and badger that could possibly harm the pups, he came back to realize they wanted to make him the beta male. Something clouded his vision briefly, but the moment passed and all of the pack let out a happy yip. Now when Blake lay under the stars, he imagined becoming one of them with his pack members there to meet him when he died. No longer did he dwell on where his mother or father were, for they had little importance in his life, only creating it was their biggest achievement. As he closed his eyes, hearing the sleeping wolves near him roll over in their sleep or twitch as they dreamed, he smiled softly and send a quick message of thanks to the ancestors for allowing him to find his home. Above, a star flashed across the sky, the message being received. For when one light goes out, another will brighten up to replace it as long as you have the determination to find out how to get to your next destination.
