A wolf born in darkness. A wolf born to a loner. A wolf born with nothing.
Born Ophelia, Oblivion lived a dejected life of bouncing from pack to pack with her mother. Always low rank, always looked down upon like dirt. Always moving on after only a few weeks. But things were destined to change. Ophelia took her fate into her own paws and left her mother to find a more permanent pack. A pack where she could climb ranks. A pack where she could become powerful.
And find this pack she did. It was a pack shrouded in mystery, tradition and ritual. Pups and juveniles frequently joined, and since Ophelia was one year of age, she qualified for training. Training was brutal. It was almost as if the pack planned for war to come upon them. Breaking rank meant exile or death. So Ophelia learned loyalty and discipline.
At three years Ophelia was reborn as Oblivion. Once a wolf from nothing, now a wolf with power and worth. The name was to remind her of her past constantly. Her pack was her life, and so she remains. Obedient, powerful...

Today was the day. Challenge day.
The one day a year in which ranks were determined through ritual combat. Occurring in early fall each year, low ranking wolves had the chance to challenge all the way up the the alpha ranks.
In a way it was like a festival. A celebration. Out with the old, in with the new. There was dancing, food that had been gathered for weeks in advance was eaten, there were races and play fights and pup wrestling. A schedule of events for the day always put the alpha challenges last. The coordinator, a sniveling little wolf named Streak, always liked to chirp "Save the best for last my friends! The best for last!"
For one group of wolves in particular, it was an exciting occasion. A group of newly turned adults, fresh out of training, would be competing for their first ranks in the pack. Among them, Oblivion. Peaking at 113 pounds and full of cocky determination, Oblivion was determined to achieve higher standings. No longer was she nothing but a pup, wandering aimlessly with a worthless mother. No, she was powerful. She could take out any one of the wolves she trained with.
But she knew the wolves she trained with were not the ones she would be facing. Her year-mate, Rager, formally Romelle, was aiming to become a breeder. With a pretty cream pelt and a penchant for laziness, Oblivion thought it fit her perfectly. Hex, formally Hector, was happy with a hunter rank. The rest were fine with picking lower off the tree as well.
Not Oblivion.
She was ready, prepared to go for the highest rank possible. Every day she had trained longer than the others. Every day she took out her friends on the sparring field. Every day she excelled. Oblivion was not content with mediocrity. She wanted to be alpha.
