Biography Crystal Tears exited her den, stretching in the morning sunlight. Her fur was still sleek and black, despite her age. Crystal Tears was the oldest female in the pack. Instead of retiring, she chose to continue working as a hunter.
As Crystal crossed the camp, she heard the sounds of the pups playing behind her. She jerked to a stop as she felt a strong tug on her tail. She turned around to see that the pups had scampered over to her. "Hi Crystal," they squeaked. "Good morning, pups," she said. "I don't have time to play right now, I'm afraid; I have to go out and catch breakfast for everyone."
The pups whined and plopped down on their behinds with disappointment. "Can't you tell us just one story before you go? Pleeeease?" they begged. "Oh, alright," Crystal laughed, sitting down in front of them. "Have I ever told you about how I came to join the pack?" The pups shook their heads violently with excitement.
"Well, I was wandering through the woods one day, just minding my own business. I was a lone wolf, and I was looking either for a mate to start my own pack with, or a different pack to join," she began. "I had no idea where I was; I didn't know if this land was claimed or not, or whether there were any packs nearby. No idea. I was just looking for something to eat."
"I was stalking the scent trail of a juicy-smelling rabbit, when all of a sudden, I heard this terrible roar ring through the trees. And after the roar, there was howling and barking. I started to run towards the noise, because I wanted to see what was happening. I burst out of the trees, and do you know what I saw?" she asked.
"No, what! What!" the pups squeaked.
"There were two wolves, who happened to be the Alphas of our pack at the time. And they were fighting a huge bear! His claws were as long as your tail and as big around as my paw. He was taller than the Alpha's Rock, and his teeth were so long and sharp, they could slice you right in half with one bite," she explained, exaggerating the story a bit to excite the pups. "When he reared up and slammed his front paws on the ground, the whole ground shook like there was an earthquake." She reared back and slammed her paws on the ground as hard as she could in front of the pups. "He was angry, and he wasn't leaving the Alphas without a fight. He took his big paw, and with one huge swipe-" -she swiped her paw in the air, sending a pine cone flying across the ground- "He sent the Alpha Female flying. The Alpha Male needed help, and I wasn't just going to stand there. So of course, I helped him out." She then went on to explain the gruesome, some-what exaggerated events of the fight to the pups. They cowered in fear as she described the bear's brute strength and anger.
"And finally, we gave him one big bite, and he went running off into the woods. If his tail weren't a little nub, it would've been tucked between his legs," she finished. "Woah! That's so cool!" the pups yipped. "Yep. And now, if you'll excuse me little ones, I have some hunting to do," she said as she stood up to leave. Crystal Tears padded out of the camp, leaving the pups to reenact her heroic battle.
