You can also set default, under manage wolf and set default battle skill, select highest offensive skill and it'll automatically be offensive in every battle

Eve- defensive. This is the first time I'm experiencing the issue. I select their highest or mid skills and the opponent to fight but the only thing that shows up is the enemies hits, damage, and then flee

Sigh. . . I feel like this game should make Apples more obtainable, but then again, I understand it's more of a Premium currency and an earning thing.

No, you need a full apple. Also you can't grow apple seeds (future event)
