I have been researching Vulture Bees lately, they are so cool as they are stingless, dont gather pollen from flowers but rather proteins from carrion

My favorite anphibian is the Golden Toad, which is an extinct speicies of toad. It was only found in the Monteverde Cloud Forest, Costa Rico, in a very small region consisting of about 3 ponds, an area of 4km squared. This little toad was only 4-6cm, or 1.5-2 inches, and its skin was bright yellow for males, and an olive with yellow/orange spots for females. It was discoved in 1964, where population was estimated to be around 1500. Then, in 1988, numbers dropped to 10. and one year later, 1 single toad was found. They were hard to spot, as they stayed in burrows unless it was breeding season, where they could be seen for a few weeks. But none were seen for years. By 2004, it was declared extinct. No one knows what caused it, but some possibilities were an El Nino that year, causing heavy rainfall, which flooded the breeding ponds. More likely, a fungus was found that killed lots of other frog species, not just the golden toad. The reason this is my favorite is because, although it is sad, it does show how fast things change, and how taking care of the enviroment could have saved them, and because of their loss, humans are protecting more endangered species with breeding programs, habitate protection, and parks and protected areas.
(This is a part of my enviromental poster I will be making in a few weeks, so I will show yall when its done) Edited at April 19, 2026 02:45 PM by Saint
