Garvin is so confused about why Aries is laughing at his kid's name. Aries refuses to explain.

Garvin dated more than just Ayaz and Melzar during the 17-19 period of his life. He dated Ayaz first out of those two, getting with him the July he turned 18 and being with him for a few months. A very bad period. He dated Melzar after Ayaz, while still 18. He was with him for a couple of months. That still leaves like... A while in 17-19 though, doesn't it? The main one I'll speak of right now is the relationship he was in before Ayaz. So while still 17. He was in a relationship with 1.5 people? As in, he was fully involved with one person and not involved with the other. The two people in question though were fully involved with each other. So. A V shape poly relationship. Very bad relationship for Garvin. Show Pony by Glass Animals is actually pretty accurate for it, with the singer/perspective being the one that Garvin wasn't involved with. This person saw the abuse that happened, and... Didn't really do anything except for (at least trying to) convince Garvin that despite the abuse, the other person did in fact love him. To clarify, this person was not being abused along with Garvin. The other two actually had a rather healthy relationship with one another. But that's because they saw each other as equal and Garvin as... Less. The dynamics/respects were very much not the same between them.

Ohhhh, I see That makes sense, and poor Garvin :( I will say though, the amount of paranoia Nico would get if they ever heard about literally any of that would actually be insane Like, River was kind of similar to this other person in the first half of Nico's relationship with Adiar, it sounds like, only obviously different in some regard because they were very much being coerced by Adiar as well But the two's system throughout the second part of the relationship was kind of like this: Abuse happens to one of them, the other doesn't step in, after the episode is over, the other comes in to comfort/bandage up, repeat. The abuse is never directly talked about and leaving is never really discussed. This all really falls into place after the discussion River has with Nico at the graveyard after the first instance of sexual abuse against her That said, it's all kind of... Standby. And the second it wasn't, it was River who broke that cycle and that resulted in death, so- Basically, the amount of guilt Nico feels about everything with River would come out in major paranoia over Garvin because Nico hates the fact that they stood by for any of that abuse against Riv (obviously it didn't matter what River did though because Nico didn't matter as much anyway) and in his mind that ultimately lead to them dying, so there's already some fear there. If Garvin "sees them like that" then that fear is heightened by like a million because that obviously means she hasn't gotten any better and is still harming the people he cares about, lol

Haha, yeahhhh- Garvin is unfortunately very used to people standing by and letting shit happen to him. Will say, Nico mostly gets shoehorned into that role in nightmares for... Quite a few reasons. One is that he literally cannot imagine Nico being abusive. The few times his brain tries to do a nightmare like that, it's very easy for him to realize he's asleep. Because Nico? No way. Second is just that Nico is very conflict avoidant. Third is that out of all the polycule, Garvin sees himself as... Less. Not worth nearly as much. The easiest one to do away with and move on from. So obviously if anyone in the polycule was to start being abusive, then everyone else in the polycule wouldn't do anything. So Nico isn't the only one that's shoehorned into the standby role during nightmares. About 50% of the time Nico's a standby, it's just Nico. The other 50% of the time Nico's a standby, someone else is too. But then about 25% of the times where Nico isn't the only standby, the other person in standing by in the nightmare tends to basically go 'fuck it' and join in. Pretty much. Because Garvin's brain hates him, apparently. The fourth reason is just that after arguments, Nico does tend to want everyone to know that they all still love each other. Which... Kind of hits into what the other person in that V shape polycule would do. So... Oops.
