Freedom, to answer your first question, I always write them for the world that the RP takes place. I usually base their appearance off of a dog breed (this is why most of them have big noses).
---
Their personality usually comes to me during the appearance process (do they like the way they look? What are their clothes like? etc).
I get inspiration for the character based off of the RP and their role. I usually have some form of an idea for them when I sign up. A lot of times I create what I want to play as or how I'm currently feeling. If I have multiple RPs, I like to have them share a couple traits just so that I don't go from jellybean baby to grumpy troll (although I currently have characters who are sort of similar to that). Sometimes I like to do the opposite for what that role is supposed to be (the reluctant leader, the ignorant scholar, the unobservant hunter etc.) I like to do prideful characters because they're usually stuck up fools and pride is a versitile characteristic that can be used for any role.

All good Badger :)

Freedom

I normally get an idea. (which isn't very helpful) I sometimes think about people I know that have traits that stand out, self reflection, or different media (movies, books). I really don't know how I make characters. I get inspired by their appearance or I guess trying to be different from other people in roleplays. >.< I normally don't do something based off of a book or movie. If I get obsessed like that I normally get inspired plot wise not character.

I honestly don't know where I even get the inspiration. Most of the time, it has to do with the genre of the RP along with the type of time period. I always enjoy doing the appearance but sometimes the personality is a bit tricky. Like Argos, I like to base characters on what type I want to portray in the RP and keep playing them as it continues on.

Most of the time, I might ask my partner if they want a cinnamon role, harsh and cold, or a neutral character. From there, I am able to make up a character that fits the role. Sometimes I already have characters in mind that I would want to use that I haven't used before, so from there I would end up making them fit the role for the RP to have it be portrayed well during it.

An example is that when I created Geneviève, I already knew she was going to hate royalty with a burning passion and hate working for them even though she loves her job as a knight. I knew she was going to have auburn hair to match her fiery and serious personality, having her have heterochromia eyes to add a sort of uniqueness to her features. So, from there, I start writing her appearance out, sometimes taking things away or adding it until it fits what I have in mind for her. Same goes for her personality as well.

I hope that makes sense because my mind doesn't want to be making sense to me right now to help explain things to someone haha.

What's the silliest roleplay or character that you've done?

Ooo, that's fairly hard. Silly as in the character is silly, it would probably be either Atlas Booker or Cai Caerwyn. I didn't get a chance to play as Cai because life got busy. Silly as in fun to make, definately Hartley Barn. I didn't get to play as him because the RP never got off the ground.

I took a glance over your blog Nyx, and my god, your style and prose is gorgeous. I couldn't produce what you do even on my best day. Your descriptions are evocative and powerful, and you manage to just,,, use words so well? I will mention that your sentences tend to sometimes run on the longer side, and you can sometimes lose the plot of the story in the description, albeit a very lovely one. Overall, I'm blown away dude! Keep up the good work :)
.
p.s. 5:27 is my fav story of yours <3

Your compliments are heavily appreciated and I can 100% see why you say they may run on for longer than needed. I tend to get lost in descriptiveness and love to really set the entire atmosphere. Thank you for the feedback, it's insanely appreciated! 5:27 a.m. has several pieces to it and will be turned into a better written book soon!

Mistress Nyx, I started reading through your blogs and 5:27 is awesome and captivating. When the hairs stood up on his neck, they stood up on mine. The ending was sort of haunting and I don't think I can look at the name "William" without thinking about your short story.

I'm eternally grateful that the effects I want to have on my readers when they do read my work are what my readers feedback to me. I love for my work to be called haunting and I love that it caused even your hairs to rise! Getting reactions out of my readers is so insanely beautiful to me and I always smile reading reviews like this. Thank you!

Oh! I have a thing. It was just one of those random writing prompts but it was good so I'll share it. Let me go find it.
Also, Nyx, I love your descriptiveness. It reminds me of J. R. R. Tolkien.

I can't say I'm familiar with any work mmby J. R. R. Tolkien. I am hoping that his work is good, and the praise of being compared to a legitimate author is another thing on it's own. My dream is to become an established writer and being compared to one is just a push to continue trying.

Hello, Lost Legends and Nyx! I will read the writing of and compliment all new people soon. I've suddenly found myself very busy - that seems to be happening a lot this year. Mistress Nyx, may I ask where you get your prompts? I can't find a good source of writing prompts to save my life.

I personally find a lot of my prompts using Reedsy Prompts. They have a writing competition every week with a $250 prize for the sole winner and I usually use those competition prompts, but they have a lot more in differing categories as well!

J.R.R. Tolkien is awesome at world building, because he is so descriptive. He started writing some languages and then wrote worlds to go with them. He is one of the major influences in fantasy writing. Some people find his books dry, because they are so descriptive. He spends an intro (maybe called appendices) talking about the history of the people the story is about, and pipeweed lol to give you an image of what he is like.

Here is the link for Atlas, he's on page 3. His first post was him taking a nap in the middle of scavenging for supplies (it was a zombie apocalypse rp). It didn't seem like he took it seriously, but he did when it counted. It was getting to a point where he didn't let it bother him as much and he's accepted it as his life as if zombies had always been around.

Page 2 is where Cai is. I wasn't able to play him because of life. I did have an idea of how I would protray him. He was supposed to be sort of awkward and anxious. A person in his group was a pyromaniac so I planned on him getting either high off of the excitement of fire or hiding from him. Now that I think of it, he's not really too silly of a character...

Hartley is definately one of my favorites and he's on page 2. So he himself doesn't have a silly personality. He was just really fun to write about. I was unfortunately not able to play him as well. I've been trying to write a character who is snobbish, self-righteous, brutally honest and sort of cold, but has more than just those attributes. Finally one of them turned out the way I wanted them to be.
