When I joined the game a bunch of people did it in teams so I also just followed them:P
I usually explore in levels 17-22 of the forest for BE training in teams, maybe a little lower when they're just starting off but it works pretty well still

I've been exploring in teams of 3 in lvl 1/2 and put my highest BE wolves on defense to let the rookie handle things. Was just curious to know how other people trained their wolves

1:
What does each talent do? I know Battle makes them stronger and Social makes it easier to get familiars. But what do the others mean?

2:
What talents should I look for in a good battle wolf other the Battle?

A Talent is a trait wolves are born (or created) with. Each Talent gives a wolf 20 CP in the attribute it boosts. So a wolf with a Battle Talent would be born with 20 Battle CP, a wolf with a Resolve Talent would be born with 20 Resolve CP, and so on. Talents can stack, so it is possible for the offspring of a very high T stud to be born with some attributes completely maxed out.

Character attributes are the different traits you can add CP to in order to improve a wolf's performance (mainly for exploring). Battle wolves essentially need Battle, Resolve and Agility maxed out in order to be good battlers. Battle CP increases damage, Resolve improves accuracy and makes prey less likely to flee, and Agility makes the wolf more likely to avoid incoming attacks.
The Game Guide has a list of what each character attribute does:

By talents, do you mean CP (character points)? Talents are what you can breed or customize onto a wolf which gives them 20 CP in a certain attribute, but the CP itself is what helps your wolves become better explorers, and you can add it on in more ways than just talents.

If you do mean CP, here's the game guide's list of each attribute and what they do/help with:
Dominance - Pack Happiness, Chasing Packs
Stealth - Tracking prey
Perception - Discovering things while exploring
Luck - Discovering things while exploring
Maternal - Number of pups born (only applies to females)
Social - Befriending familiars
Empathy - Healing animals and other encounters
Morals - Fixing the Beaver Dam and other encounters
Resolve - Offensive battle ability
Composure - Raiding the Farmhouse and other encounters
Wisdom - Discovering things while exploring, Identifying prey, avoiding quicksand
Battle - Offensive battle ability
Charisma - Number of pups born (only applies to males)
Agility - Defensive battle ability
Spirituality - Discovering things while exploring, spirit ancestors, other encounters

For your second question, I say look for wolves with high agility, resolve and stealth, in addition to battle. ^^
