Can you change your alpha pair or do you have to wait until they reach old age? Can you retire them early? Or if you increased a dominance of two other wolves, would they become an Alpha pair bonded pair? Especially if your first Alpha wolves are a starter pair?

You can change your alpha pair by raising the dominance of other wolves to be higher than theirs. The wolves with the highest dominance will become the alphas. If you wish to reset dominance to 1, (if your alphas are maxed) you can purchase staredown in barter for 10 mushrooms

And you can retire a wolf at any age, but it deletes them from the game.

You could also make your current alpha pair Elders, which will cause the next highest dominance wolves to take their place.
