Thanks to the humans destroying the natural environment and waging mass wars the world has turned into an inhospitable wasteland where the rules are eat or be eaten. Those that have survived have done so only out of either grit, luck or spite.

It's been over 20 years since the last human was seen and weird things have started to happen, Pups being born with extra limbs or strange powers, animals that were once docile prey now showing up with teeth sharp enough to rend flesh and a quickness that can mean the death of even the strongest predators. the weather is erratic and unpredictable, one day it'll be -10 degrees and snowing so much you can't see more then a foot in front of you and then the next it'll be over 100 degrees and the sun will scorch anything it touches.

Oddly enough out of all the animals to survive it's been the canines that have dominated, dogs and wolves alike have found innovative ways to deal with the ever changing ecosystems they live in. They formed communities with whomever they could find and banned together to survive.
