Calliope grinned, scoffing at his words playfully, "Oh, you are so on. It'll be really fun to see your ass get kicked by a girl." Calliope knew she likely stood no chance to Calen, seeing as he had more training and every advantage he could ever need to knock her onto her ass, but it would be so fun to try and get the upper hand. Calliope parted ways, dipping into her room to change quickly. She put on some trousers with a loose long sleeve before putting on her boots and tying up her hair with a ribbon. It was a much different look for her to adorn, but it was among her favorites since it gave her the flexibility to do whatever she pleased. Once done, she exited her room, looking to see if Calen was ready to go as well.

Calen scoffed, "I'd like to see you try." He said as he quickly entered his room, changing into his fighting leathers. Tight and thick, but allowing swift movements and still acting as armor. He exited his room to find Calliope waiting for him. They walked to the training area, currently unoccupied. Calen began to do his warm up stretches, stretching his arms and legs to avoid cramping. This was a routine a practiced everyday, like second nature by now. Training was the one time during the day he could relax, as weird as that sounded. It was rare he was able to practice against another person, since he had scared the guards off a number of years ago, so he was excited to actually spar with someone other than a wooden dummy.

Calliope had always rathered loose clothing when sparing, seeing as anything snug to her skin irritated her severely. She'd rather take a little extra pain then have to worry about it feeling confined. Of course, she did have steel armor that had been made for her, but she only wore it enough to get used to fighting in it. Calliope drew out of her thoughts, beginning to stretch as well. She was extremely flexible and seemingly agile, which were her typical strong suits in fighting. Being small did have its ups, not just downs thankfully. Once she felt stretched enough, Calliope straightened, making sure her hair was tied tight enough so it wouldn't get in her way.

Calen finished stretching and straightened, realizing he had forgotten something to tie back his hair while he watched Calliope check her own hair. He searched around and happened to find a strip of leather on the padded floor, most likely shredded off of someone's clothes during a spar. He grabbed if off the floor, tying back his hair. Calen leaned down to grab his sword, which he had left in the room from yesterday. He unsheathed it, the sing of metal ringing through the air.

Calliope had brought her own sword, seeing how most armory's had bows that fit her needs, but the swords were almost always too big. As she unsheathed the sword, the metal sung in unison with his. She was a bit nervous. She'd only ever truly fought against her instructor and her father, seeing as all the guards were too nervous of hurting the princess. Despite being little, she took a hit surprisingly well. Her strength was in her speed, slipping in attacks as frequent as she could, dancing around her partner effortlessly. Calliope only hoped she'd be a decent partner for Calen. She turned him, a smirk on her lips. "Ready?"

"Always." He said, a grin on his lips. He decided to go on the offensive first, not giving her any time to study him and his weaknesses, which she would surely try to do. Calen lunged, feining right and going left, swiping her her side but missing on purpose. He twirled around and was facing her again, taking up the defensive. He deliberately left his left side exposed, wanting to see if she would notice and act on it. It was time to see how observant she really was.

Calliope was rather surprised at how quickly he'd chosen to attack her, having narrowly dodged his attempt. A glimmer of excitement danced in her eyes as she studied him, her eyes remaining on his face. She hadn't failed to notice how he'd left his left side exposed. She wondered if it might be a trap, but she couldn't pass up the opportunity. In a flurry of light steps, she lunged at him, attacking on his left mercilessly. Once her move had been made, she spun back around, obviously light on her feet. "You did that on purpose," she hummed, taking up the defense this time as she readily observed him.

Calen was pleased when Calluope noticed that his left side was left exposed, and even more so when her sword sliced at his leathers, leaving a cut in the fabric, even if his skin was unharmed. She was agile, something he had expected, and one of the advantages she had over him. She was light and quick on her feet, dodging away from him before he could return a blow. "Maybe." He said as he lunged again, slicing down her arm but only applying enough pressure to rip the fabric. Before she could attack again, he aimed to sweep her leg out from underneath her, but narrowly missed, swiping at thin air. Calen couldn't say he wasn't embarrassed by that, as that was one of the easiest tricks in the book that he had completely botched. His guts would most definitely be on the ground by now if this was a real battlefield.

Calliope had failed at dodging his counter attack, his blade ripping her shirt. There was something about the rush she got from sparring. It was so electrifying. Even as he missed putting her on the ground, she was still just as excited, stepping back a bit. Calliope rose an eyebrow, surprised he'd missed that. It was one of the easiest ways to end a fight with her. She didn't give any warning as she made her next move, aiming for his right side. Calliope had missed by a hair, her gaze flitting behind Calen for a moment. It would seem theyd gained an audience, his father watching from a distance as well as a few gaurds. She took her defense, planting her feet as she grinned up at Calen. "It would seem we're being watched," she whispered, her sword ready in her hands to try to defend any blows he may attempt.

Calen could see the excitement I'm Calliope's eyes as she rose her eyebrow. "If you ever yell anyone that happened, I'll cut you into little pieces." He said, his voice filled with humor. She narrowly avoided impaling his right side, barely registering her words. He glanced up for a second, catching a brief glimpse of his father. "Even more reason for me to knock you on your ass." He said with a wicked grin, lashing out with his leg in hope to knock her down once and for all as his leg hooked around her ankle. Edited at February 21, 2024 04:09 PM by _Moonshadow_
