Appearance
Damien Niyati Dalili is a formidable witch hunter whose appearance belies the intensity of his purpose. With a short, fluffy style, his black hair cascades just low enough to brush against his brows, often veiling his piercing gaze. His eyes, a mesmerizing blend of grey and green, possess a captivating depth, accentuated by the striking contrast of central heterochromia.
On regular days, Damien opts for a casual ensemble, donning a simple white t-shirt paired with sleek black pants. His attire is completed by sturdy combat boots, a testament to his readiness for any challenge. However, when duty calls, he transforms into a figure of shadow and resolve, clad in a plain black shirt and matching pants concealed beneath a formidable black trench coat. The coat, a staple of his hunting gear, boasts numerous hidden pockets meticulously stocked with vials of potent elixirs, razor-sharp knives, and other essential tools of his trade.
Standing tall at a height of 6'0", Damien possesses a robust, muscular build that speaks volumes of his physical prowess. His sun-kissed complexion radiates an air of rugged determination, complementing his handsome features. Yet, despite his striking appearance, there's an aura of solemnity that surrounds him, accentuated by his often impassive countenance or, in the presence of his wife, an unsettling blend of suppressed emotions ranging from anger to melancholy.
Backstory
Born into a lineage of seasoned witch hunters, Damien's upbringing was steeped in the traditions and disciplines of his forebears. From the moment he could walk, he was immersed in the teachings of his parents, both revered figures within the clandestine world of witchcraft suppression. Under their tutelage, Damien honed his skills in the art of detection and combat, mastering the intricate strategies necessary to confront the elusive forces of magic that lurked in the shadows.
As he matured, Damien's path seemed predetermined, his destiny inexorably intertwined with the legacy of his family. Yet, amidst the rigorous training and relentless pursuit of his calling, there simmered a quiet discontent, a lingering sense of unease that whispered of unfulfilled desires and untold secrets.
It was against this backdrop of tradition and duty that Damien's world was upended by the revelation of an arranged marriage. Bound by the dictates of societal expectation, he found himself betrothed to a young woman whose name and face remained shrouded in mystery until the eleventh hour. Though he harbored reservations about the union, Damien understood the weight of tradition and the necessity of compliance, for to defy the dictates of his station would court not only censure but the unraveling of the delicate fabric that held their society together.
Amidst the tumult of impending matrimony, Damien's journey took an unexpected turn with the emergence of latent abilities, gifts bestowed upon him by the very adversaries he had sworn to eradicate. Haunted by visions of the future, fleeting glimpses that danced on the periphery of his consciousness, Damien grappled with the newfound powers that simmered beneath the surface, their origins shrouded in mystery and their purpose uncertain.

Maliah Ann Crux

Age: 18

Species: Witch

"one day I will tell you what I've been. It will scare you."

Nickname: Mal, Liah.

Looks/Backstory:

Maliah had always been strikingly different from everyone, whether that be due to her strange colored eyes or the white hair that curled slightly at the ends. Her eyes were framed with thick lashes; the bright blue hue with little specks of gold different from her parents who simply had dark green eyes and brown hair- hints of blonde in the summer months but needless to say Mal looked nothing like them, except for the same button nose and pouty mouth she got from her mother.

Standing at only 5'3 she was considered shorter than most. As much as it was a disadvantage it was an advantage: She was quick on her feet. Something she learned from her teenage years. Her parents now feared her, yet couldn't not love their daughter. Witches were dangerous after all, which was why for almost a decade Witch Hunters were allowed to bring them to the stake and burned. The only way to "kill a witch"- a complete lie conjured up by those who were scared of them- the power they held. One they could not. Only Witch Hunter picked up small bits of power, in turn for killing the Witches. The more Witches killed, the more power you could posses. Or so they were told. Mal wasn't sure what to believe, or rather if she even wanted to. So, Maliah hid in the midst of those who wanted her dead- even those who loved her; but love could only get one so far before hearts were broken.

"who knows why we were taught to fear witches, and not those who burned them alive."

Family:

Alex West Crux (father)- Human.

Lillian Ann Crux (mother) -Human

Extra:

Maliah's great grandmother and her sister were witches, but since then the magic has been dormant; until Mal.

"you can love a monster, it can even love you back. But that still doesn't change it's nature."

Maliah couldn't remember a day where a spike of fear had not hammered at her heart causing the hairs on her neck to rise- today was no different. Not as she made her way through the small town, the castle was only a mere few miles ahead where guards stood stationed and even some strolling through the quarter, swords strapped to their backs. There was no reason to be nervous, not usually. But today- Maliah had gone over board, having snuck a book from the library- the books of Witches and History of Covens was tucked into her cloak pocket. The dark pants and black v-neck she wore blended her into the crowd, minus the cloak she wore. But her time in the town square never went without incident, especially as she brushed shoulders with a Guard- his stiff posture nearly knocking her down along with the books Mal definitely should not have. He growled down his nose at her, his top lip curling to show the disgust there- or perhaps that was his smile. "Watch it Kid." He snapped, brushing his hands over the coat her wore- his medals gleaming in the sunlight. "Sorry." Maliah replied curtly, trying to weasel her way around the brute; she was no stranger to the violence they could inflict. But the worst of them were the Witch Hunters. A little cult as Maliah liked to call them, a phrase that they would not be happy about. Not that she cared much, Mal was good at what she did. Which was hide. Run. Whichever came first in the time of need.

Thankfully, Maliah was able to side step him- allowing herself the time she needed to calm her racing heart. It would do her no good to lose control here. Especially here. But her magic was unpracticed, and she rarely had a grip on them often having to hide away until she could take control of the wild powers. Her trek back home went as expected no one else bothered the white haired female- her aura alone would send anyone scattering away from her. Afraid. They should be. The bitter thoughts did not dissipate when she rounded the corner of her street and found her father standing at the door; waiting for her.

Mal cursed silently, making sure the books were well hidden before approaching the front door, her father's foot tapping away in silent anger. Which was even worse. There was no greeting, not that she expected any from Alex who wordlessly led her into the cabin- shutting the door behind them. Maliah thought she was going to escape to her room, when he cleared his throat finally speaking, "Where were you?" He asked, brows pinched together in a frown Mal knew well enough that she sat down at the kitchen table- chair scarping against the floor. "In town. I wanted to go to the library." At least that wasn't a compete lie. She hated lying to them. Her parents deserved more, they deserved a daughter they were not afraid of. "Doing what?" He asked pressing her for more. Her head tilted, "What's wrong?" She asked instead turning the conversation away from what she didn't want to come out. Alex sighed, before sitting down across from her. He was nervous, the power of reading his feelings came surging forward- Mal quickly clamped down the line of magic; straightening in her chair- "What?" She muttered, blinking at her father as if he were a stranger; perhaps her was. They had only taught her to hide, to suppress her powers when they came to light- painful and excoriating but worth it if she wanted to keep her life. Literally. "After you were born a deal was made, an arrangement. One that will benefit us, help you. You are to be married to Damien Dalili."

Maliah blinked again, surprise was her first reaction then anger. Her powers whipped forward, her eyes almost shifting to an orange- burning like the rage in her veins. Damien was the worst monster- A Witch Hunter and a damn good one. Which was why she was sputtering with anger, confused "But he will-" He father stood quickly, shaking his head "Do not finish that sentence." He hissed his own anger spiking. But for the wrong reasons. "You know what he will do to me." She almost cried out, standing herself needing to do something before she burned the whole cabin to the ground- her parents included. It was then her mother walked in, gasping at the scene before her. "Oh. You're home." She said as greeting walking inside calmly shutting the door behind her and moving to Alex's side. "Your father has told you I assume?" She asked casually, making Mal's jaw drop before she threw her hands into the air. "You knew?!" She spat before shaking her head at them both making her way to the door. "And where do you think you're going?" Alex asked stepping into her vision, her jaw almost cracking the way she slammed it shut to keep from lashing out.

Taking a deep breath, she moved around him opening the door, "I need to take a breather." Was all she shared before slamming the door behind her and stalking off down the road towards the trail she knew well enough. One she had only ever gotten lost on once- as a child when she could barely remember her favorite color much less the way back home. 'Home' Maliah thought sourly- had she ever truly had one? She was to lost in her own thoughts to notice anyone or anything around her.

Damien had left home early that morning. The sun wasn't up yet, stars still glinting high up in the sky. He had returned from another witch hunt only two days ago. Yesterday was a day to take it easy, relax while also enjoying the victory of taking down another witch.

Today was different, today was a day for training. He couldn't ever take a break from that for more than maybe a week at most. If he stopped training he thought that would make him dull, he'd lose his skills and that couldn't happen no matter what.

He had woken up from his cozy but small bed, gotten ready for that day and headed off in a matter of minutes. He quietly closed the door behind him, mindful of his sleeping parents. There was no training grounds closeby so he did have to walk quite a bit before finally reaching the forest and it's dirt path trail.

The path he followed was worn down with the footsteps of countless people and he was merely adding to it. The black boots he wore made clear prints on the ground. He enjoyed the breeze and hummed a little song up until he arrived.

The area was just a little meadow surrounded by tall spruce trees. Damien always enjoyed this spot. It brought a feeling of calm, peace and tranquility. Nobody came here except for fellow witch hunters. The witches were too scared to come here due to it being claimed by the people who killed them, generally, though there were a few cases where some dangerous fights ensued. The rest of the townspeople didn't want to come here because many of them had spread the myth that witches were attracted to that place despite the witch hunters knowing it was quite the opposite.

Sometimes, though rarely, the townspeople would send someone to deliver a message to a witch hunter that may be found training here. It was always something about a new target, a new witch to hunt or something like that. Never was it regular stuff like being summoned home.

He dropped his coat onto a little makeshift bench made out of fallen logs and a bit of spare metal. He rumaged around and found a few of his silver daggers, taking them out of his inner pockets and twirling them around in the air as he walked over to some withered and battered training dummies.

He loved the rush of adrenaline that came with unleashing a flurry of unrelenting attacks on his fake opponent. At the end of it all he sort of felt a bit bad because of how war torn the dummy looked. "Poor little guy.." Damien smiled apologeticly at the inanimate object. He always hated the end of his work, though only left with a bit of guilt if the target ended up getting away. Lately he had been giving them some extra chances when he shouldn't have.

He trained until the sun was getting too hot for him to continue, his body temperature already increased enough with all his hard work to make him feel uncomofrtable. Damien leaned down for a second, almost panting from the effort of all his training. Once he was back on his feet and all proper once more, he picked up his coat and set all the daggers back in their rightful places. He slung the coat back onto his shoulders and began the walk back home through the soothing forest.

Just as the sound of the door closing behind him hit his parents, he was surrounded, ambushed. He was brought over to the table very quickly after taking off his outdoor clothing. He looked at them with confusion, "What's all this about?"

"Do you remember who Maliah is?" His mother began, continuing when he nodded. "Well.. a deal was made a long time ago. Back when you were kids. This deal was made to benefit the both of our families. You'll be marrying here in just a couple of weeks."

Damien looked at her for a long moment.. he was having a hard time processing what he had just heard. "I'm... what?" He had no clue what to think of this. On one hand, he couldn't go against his families wishes and on the other.. he really didn't want to get married to a random girl he had never paid attention to. It would get in the way of his hunts, even if neither of his parents thought so.

Damien was served lunch while they chatted about it all, Damien never really putting it all together. He ate rather slowly today, almost looking sad but neither his mother no r father caught on. He spent the day kind of in a daze with his reality melting to madke place for this new woman to come into it in a way he didn't enjoy.

Later on he left the house again, with the excuse of taking a walk. His mother didn't mind, thinking that was all it was. Damien walked through town, passing Maliah's house unintentionally and following the same path she had gone down when he reached the same road and trail that she had. He walked quite quickly and soon enough found the girl on the way.

"Oh. Hey there." Damien spoke with a cool tone, nothing but boredom plaguing his voice. He wasn't in the mood to chat but oh well, here they were. He couldn't get past her without saying a few words. Maybe she knew about this already?

With her attention fixed on her own thoughts and trying to control the emotions they brought forward making her power sizzle under her skin- frying her from the inside out. She winced only slightly to show the discomfort, having years to hide the powers was easy- but some days when her emotions over rode everything else the power she had was not easy to contain. She had just reached the edge of a clearing- the small pond filled with lillie's and frogs of all kind. A creature she hated. It wasn't until that deep timbre of a voice spoke that she realized she was being followed- She whirled around a dagger already in her hand when she faced the voice. Damien.

She exhaled a sigh of relief but still did not release the tension in her shoulders- squaring them before meeting his gaze. The man was as beautiful as he was dangerous, making Mal take a step back from the close proximity of their bodies. Even his words had her bristling even the slightest; everyone in town knew who he was. A witch Hunter and a damn good one. It made her thoughts churn wondering what kind of powers he possessed to have captured the most Witches out of his group. Maliah simply rolled her eyes, "Hello Future husband." She countered before shifting away from him- making it known the conversation between them was either open or dead. It was hard to tell which, especially knowing he was to be her husband in a matter of weeks. It was easier to joke than to face the seriousness of this marriage. Surely her parents were stupid, and knew that marrying him put them all in danger. If he knew..If he ever found out her family be would dead as well. No questions asked.

For hiding her, and for the simple fact they could be Witches as well. Mal knew that they were far from anything power but that would not stop the guards or the Witch Hunters. Once that request came from the head of those who Hunted the Witches; whose life they chose to take were simply that. Taken.

"Did you come out here to kill me before the wedding?" She mused, though the joke was far from anything funny. Damien would and could kill her before she could even blink; and would have zero trouble doing it. Especially from the way he looked at her now; like she was a burden or problem he had to solve. Which left her needing a plan. One that would not lead to her death nor her parents.

Damien inwardly cringed when he heard her first words back. Outwardly he just spoke in a much colder tone. He didn't agree with any reminder that he would have to marry her. it wasn't going to be a huge grand thing like it would be if this wasn't arranged.

Despite how much he hated having to marry her, he really didn't have much against her personally. He always looked for signs related to someone being a witch but otherwise, nothing was going to make him intend to kill anyone.

"I hope you mean that as a joke, a very bad one at that." Damien sighed. Nothing about her at the moment made him wary of her. Just seemed like she had stormed off and wandered this way. Likely that she was just told about this news a few hours ago or in the morning like he had, but if she had heard in the morning they wouldn't have met right now. "Just to be clear, no I did not come here to kill you."

He brushed past her, moving her forward with him in a subtle way of telling her to just walk with him since they were both out there. She must have just been told but maye she was just really angry about it still. How long had she known for? Might as well just ask.

"How long have you known?" He said it as more of a statement and less of a question. That wasn't entirely meant to happen but honestly.. who cares? He didn't exactly come off as friendly either way.

Maybe as they walked a bit more he would change his tone towards her. Myabe she didn't have to annoy him quite so much as she did now. That would be unlikely given the state she was in now but one could only hope.

He walked along the path, guiding them down the little trail. He admired the trees and how peaceful it was.. apart from Maliah. The trees didn't have relationship issues, or issues with society and it's expectations. The trees could live a peaceful life without humans ruining every plan they had in life with getting married. He might be getting a little off track, come to think of it..

(Running on one hour of sleep and just woke up a few minutes ago 💀 Sorry for such a short reply)

Maliah's brow rose at the failed attempt at a joke- shaking her head with a sigh "I certainty don't expect you to just accept this marriage. Don't you have a reputation to uphold with your fellow Witch Hunters?" She uttered- blinking back surprise as he brushed past her- bringing that masculine scent with him. Everything inside her curled away, not sure whether to follow to simply walk away. She chose the first option least of all he run and tell on her to someone; huffing she set off after him keeping a short distance between them while she twirled the dagger in her hands. Lucky enough her father had been a guard before he was injured, teaching Mal everything she needed to know to survive. For that she was grateful.

His question brought her attention back to focus, her eyes settling on the tight lines of his back- Maliah scoffed "If I knew before today I would have run. A life tied to a Witch Hunter is not one I am looking forward to." She muttered, "What about you?" She added if only to keep the conversation on a civil level. She also couldn't help but feel nervous- the books she held onto still tucked away alone would give her away; and she would die. Along with her family. The threat on her life never seemed to go away, not for a second- which made her all the more stressed. Now adding a wedding? A marriage? She was lost in her thoughts for a while before she spoke up again.

"Why do you do it?" She asked, the question something that had bothered her long before she even knew she was a witch herself. Why did they kill Witches? One's like Mal never did anything wrong and yet they were murdered as id their lives meant less. But to humans, Magic was dangerous and not having their own source of power she could see why. It was a dangerous game of balance- who had more power. Humans would always feel the need to protect themselves no matter the moral codes they crossed. Pulling her cloak around herself tighter, she brought her almost ice blue eyes away from his form and toward the tree-line. Just in the distance she could see the form of a woman- or perhaps it was a smaller man. Mal stopped in her tracks either way as the figure brought their palms up and fire erupted; she tracked their line of sight before she was springing across the trail pushing Damien out of the way. "Watch out." She hissed- the fire of the Witch catching her shoulder. Footsteps could be heard running away, escaping into the forrest. Maliah groaned, patting the fire from her cloak; wincing when she spotted where the fire had burned through the cloak and into her skin blistering it.

"Do you always have people trying to kill you? Because if so I'm going to have to rethink ever following you. Anywhere." She grumbled, her free hand covering the raging burn on her shoulder.

Damien mentally facepalmed. Of course this would happen, this conversation. His witch hunting was always brought up. It wasn't exactly fun to have his profession brought up but at least he got some fame for it. That's one of the reasons he started doing it. It also earned pretty good income from the townspeople.

"I do, have a reputation to uphold. I also can't go against them when it comes to this or it'll damage my reputation more. I'm sure you have the same issue.. if you have a smidge of dignity." Damien made sure she could keep up with him by walking slower than usual. By 'them' he meant his parents. He thought that was clear. He was oddly relaxed at this point even with Maliah tagging along at his side.

"A life with a witch hunter isn't too bad. You get better than the average." That was.. if you could deal with all the things hunting him and what he hunted. It drew attention and it was dangerous but if you could stomach it you were paid quite a bit and could afford a lot of goodies for yourself, friends or spouses. It wasn't all bad. "I learned about it earlier today. Weighed on me all day, finally took a break from it. Well, I thought I did but then here you are. I can't say I mind it, you don't seem like the worst option." Damien sighed. "You'll just get in my way and that's an issue."

The conversation went quiet for a while as they walked down the path. Truely he had nothing against her at the moment. All he hated was the part where he had to pretend to love her, have a family and all that stuff instead of focusing on his targets. He had more love for his job than for a random girl.

"Hm?" Damien turned his attention back to Maliah. It had gone quiet for a little bit and he had gotten lost in his own thoughts for a second. "The honest answer? The honest answer is that at first I did it purely for the money. Nobody in their right mind would kill otherwise. And then I started getting popular so it was for the fame and income at that point. After I started getting actually hurt by their flames I realized they were actually quite dangerous so that also adds to it. I want to protect my family, and carry on how they've done it. I also want the money and fame."

He didn't care to lie. He had trained to be a witch hunter almost from birth in his own family, but he never enjoyed the thought of killing anybody no matter what they may be. He had been left alone on a mission and encountered the witch they were set out to hunt and that was the first time he had been injured, seriously, by a witch. It hurt like hell and he saw why they all wanted them dead. He realized how much he got paid to kill them and was amazed, so the incentive only made it better. The fame once he began to become well known was equally amazing.

Once or twice the townspeople had even accused him of being a witch himself because they didn't believe he could have walked away from each one without gaining his own abilities and that.. was true. He did have a few from over the years and he wasn't that good at controlling them but they were small and easy to hide. Some of them were gifted from witches he actually let get away.

Damien was pushed to the side with a small grunt of surprise, immediately sucked into the moment again. Damien heard the footsteps running away and his insticts told him to follow them and take down the attacker, but Maliah was here and had been injured. He rumaged around his coats inside pockets and pulled out a few bandages. He took out a small vial and put the opening up against the fabric. He flipped them quickly so that the liquid would drip through and flipped it back before it got damp.

He quickly pocketed the vial. Damien grabbed her hand and tossed it away, wrapping the blistered skin with the bandages drizzled in an unknown liquid.

"Yes, usually I do. It's part of the job." Damien huffed. "That should heal you shortly, make sure to take it off tomorrow by the same time today."

Maliah winced only slightly at the burn of the medicine, something she knew nothing about. Even as she eyed the vial before he pocketed it and began working on her injury. She hissed, recoiling away from him when her powers screamed to lash out, a thousand of her ancestors chanting for revenge against their kind. Mal couldn't. Wouldn't. Not for their petty revenge. Not when it would cost her more than her family but her own life. Blinking back her surprise at his ease, she straightened "T-Thank you." She managed to force out through gritted teeth, not sure what she was thankful for. Not running after the witch who was probably just a scared teen or helping her when he didn't have to at all.

"As for our earlier conversation, I cannot be that simple as to just wanting money and fame. If so thats rather shallow. To just take a life for your own fame- your own gain. However, You are going to be my husband and in public; If there ever is an occurrence I will do my best to honor your..work." She mumbled before stepping back, thankful for the distance created. "I guess I shall see you around..husband." Mal mused before walking back into the direction of her home. But also thankful that the books hadn't been knocked loose in the struggle- saving his life perhaps. Only the gods know what he would have done upon finding her little treasures tucked away. Surely she wouldn't be walking back home safely.

By the time she made it home it was near nightfall, and for once Mal did not mind the constant buzz of her power- especially when no one was around. Letting bits and pieces of her magic flow from her fingers, she could see the little flowers starting to bloom alongside the trail- like they had always been there. A snap of a twig had her cutting off the power quickly, only to see her father emerge from the brush. That still didn't calm the racing heart she had under her cloak. "Father." She greeted quietly as he fell into a step beside her, tucking her closer to him than was comfortable. "Mal. Your mother's been worried about you. Come." He muttered steering her into the warm cabin where her mother greeted them with warm food.

But still, by the time Mal washed up and went to bed- stuffing the books away in a drawer she felt uneasy. Like her life was never going to he the same again.
