Fabian rolled his icy blue eyes and shook his head. "Miss Grey, may I remind you that you are a principal, not a student. You may want to act like it before you set a poor example--oops, you already did."

He fell silent and drew in a deep sip of coffee.

Layne glared long and hard at the principal with his sapphire eyes flashing with distaste. "It was yesterday during class. It... class had almost gotten out and I still have the burn mark from it. Maybe we wouldn't act so similar if people weren't losing their common sense," he added with a low snarl. "But you did say I was a liar. You did. You told me, to my face, that your precious goblin of a son couldn't hardly attack anyone. Well, my shoulder still hurts and he's the only one with the abilities to do so."

Fabian simply snorted.

"Oh I'm not taking your spot," Fabian let out a harsh laugh, shaking his head. "That's too much for me. I might be the second in command but I'm not ... nope..."

Layne bobbed his head quietly, a wash of relief rushing through him. "If it's alright, ma'am. I'd like it to be the Star Group."

Fabian's icy blue eyes flickered briefly with some short and sharp musement before he took another sip of coffee. It was a lighter brew, with a soft creamer and honey mixed into it, the faint hint of mint edged in the smell and taste.

"Oh I get to stay," Fabian teased for a moment, the hint of a sharp smile in his lips as he leaned back in the chair, his legs crossed over at the knee. "How lucky." His eyes flicked upward, watching the woman closely.

He didn't outright ask what she wanted, he had a feeling she'd start talking the minute the door closed again. But he did reference what he wanted to state. "My office closet is locked still," he swirled the cup in his hand. "The gifts wrapped, readied and named."

It was ... strange. The amount of relief he had suddenly that washed through his entire body. It felt like a tight string had just been unwound in his chest. Like suddenly... he could breathe again.

His golden wings didn't clutch themselves so close to his back. The boy's shoulders lowered, leaving him with a far more relived and relaxed pose as he made his way through the hallways, heading toward the cafeteria. Now that the knot of nerves in his stomach had somewhat ebbed, Layne was... surprisingly hungry.

Fabian's expression didn't change at all as the woman turned to snarl at him. He simply took another sip of coffee, testing it in his mouth before setting the cooling drink aside on his desk. "You can be 'not up for that crap' all the day long," he finally mused aloud, his eyes not leaving the woman at all. There was a danger in his expression, a testing sort of muse as she walked away. He waited, silently, until she returned.

"I am protective of all the students, Miss Grey," Fabian returned the words idly, toying with a piece of curled ribbon on one of the boxes. The gold string curled loosely around his nimble fingers, tail settling down finally as he glanced up at her. "Why... if I remember, a long time ago... well," he let out a weary noise, almost a scoffing laugh. "I remember what it was like to be in his position. Alone, bullied, torn to pieces by the other students for nothing more than a unicorn horn growing out of your forehead. No one took it seriously, Miss Grey. I figured I ought to break that cycle."

He finally stood up. "Your gifts should be in the closet, yes. I suppose it's time we get them."
