Yes they do, not full on tunnels though. They do dig holes to store food, but if you don’t see food in these holes at any time, even shells, then it’s likely not squirrels
Howler Pack
They shouldn’t dig things too deep. And don’t they cover their food stashes? Again, it would be really helpful what country/city to narrow things down.
Howler Pack
Idk. Sounds a little small for a gopher but we don’t really have them where I live, at least I haven’t seen any thank God. Maybe like a chipmunk or mouse. Maybe a vole?
Sarcophapup
Your neighbors or shops nearby can be putting out food for birds or squirrels, little critters often find food in neighboring areas and bury it far off in a different area. Squirrels here will make lots of holes to stash food even if we don’t feed them specifically.

Looks like it’s time to get a cam! I’ve been meaning to get trail cams for our house, I love seeing what the critters are up to. Animals can still inhabit cities especially if there’s good food sources for them.

Possums don’t dig. What country/city r u in? But it’s probably a gopher or some rodent.
ZefhyrMaracaibo
in this city ther is no one to call. they thought i was nuts calling about the oppossum
ZefhyrMaracaibo
no where near any woods; have not seen it...its made a little hole to dig under a wooden patio, and one into the bottom of a lilac tree, and one in the rock garden in front - ive been here for years and this is just in the past week! never before. so weird. years ago, there were raccoons, long gone now, and i did see an oppossum last year.
Sarcophapup
Gopher depending on country, they cause tons of damage to lawns and gardens here. We have a few different animals here that tunnel but most of them don’t damage gardens and structures like gophers do. Not to mention they cause your yard to be mushy and sloppy during rainy seasons
Kháos
I'd look up local wildlife and see what small critters match the description.
Howler Pack
What city might help is what it is. Are u near any woods or anything? Have u seen it?
ZefhyrMaracaibo
hey i live in a busy city andhave no idea what wild animal could be (1) digging little tunnels through the dirt. and (2) chewing wood and sticks. oh and its a fenced yard on a super busy street! signed Clueless in the Garden
