That's actually less due to social media and more due to a change in how teachers are required to teach language. Students are no longer taught how to sound out words or how the english language works, just to figure out words from context clues which, as you might be able to guess, makes it really difficult to read books about your current reading level

The school age reading levels are really bad in the US right now. A lot of kids 7th grade and above are reading at a 3rd grade level </3 it is very unfortunate & makes me sad
