As temperatures rise and climate change does its thing- there's shorter periods of frost, and/or it's not reaching where it used to. Now, biologically, the winter frost would kill off excess ticks, keeping populations in check.

It's projected ticks will continuously move north word, in areas where they couldn't go before because of temperature limitations, and populations will boom because less die off because there are less extreme frosts. :]
