Thank you </3 yeah it's difficult in insects because they essentially have to 1. bust out of this shell, and 2. push themselves out of it, FAST. If they mess up and survive, it makes the next molt harder

I've had mismolts and many deaths already, but Boberto was special </3 he was very friendly and I was going to pair him with Rascal for grandbabies

Mantis grow up through molting, that is they shed their skin all at once to expand. Mismolts occur when they cannot escape their old exoskeleton in time before their new one hardens or they run out of energy. Once it does, whatever wonky position their legs, arms, body etc are stuck in is permanent and depending on the severity, can cause difficulties hunting prey or even death due to improper shape of the bodily systems

I just had to euthanize my second eldest mantis. He mismolted. If I hadn't stopped to clean up downstairs I could have caught him in time.
