I live on the coast and the worst I've experienced is stares from older, you know who, folks when I hold her hand, but they whip their heads away or don't say a word when I return their gaze ๐Ÿ˜‚ in contrast when I went to visit my partner's hometown a province over we got comments and whispers even though it was supposedly safe

Yeah I know there are a lot of exceptions, but the general trend is usually cities and coastal areas attract queer people to move there because it is safer in terms of being able to express your queerness
