They're an "investment" company as an umbrella term, but they've been "investing" in American real estate since the 80s. It eventually got to the point where people, especially older generations, would sell their old homes to them instead of another family because they pay a lot more. And you can think about the simple economics from there lmao. And it's just one example of companies that do it
