You make your wolves happy by 1. Making sure their hunger and water bars are full 2. Making sure each wolf has a separate dominance number and 3. making sure they like each other (pack life is one way to do this and I'm not sure about what else)

You can buy more den slots in Realm>Market place>barter and under apples in den expansion. It is 10 apples for 5 slots

You can also give them items from the quick view of the wolves listed in your den - there will be a bar to the right. I find this to be quicker
