Building up CP on a small explore team and leveling up in explore is the easiest/quickest way to earn mushrooms, especially when you are first starting. There will be mush earned in encounters, battles, and you will find items and food you can use or sell.

Make sure your wolves have decent amounts of character Points. It helps with finding mushrooms in explore.
