Human Appearance
Merari is a rather light-skinned person with peachy undertones. His skin has a vaguely pallid look which is quickly fading. He has a rounded, smooth-looking nose and slightly downturned eyes. He has a delicate look despite this. His ears are rounded and slightly large. He has a slightly large mouth which lends itself to extreme expressiveness, from big smirks to large frowns to teeth-gritting fury. Most of his emoting has to do with his mouth. He has perfectly clean teeth and pinkish lips. He has fairly smooth black eyebrows which match his hair, set slightly high on his face. His eyes have a downturned look, with rounder bottoms and flatter tops. They’re a forest-green color with a scattering of brown, overall giving them a hazel look. He has thin, short eyelashes. He has a tall jawline and pitch-black hair. It’s a bit stringy and wild, and goes just down to his shoulders. He wears it combed back. He also has light sideburns.
He stands at 5’9” and is rather underweight. He’s unnaturally lanky and gangly-looking, though he holds himself in a rather graceful way. His arms and legs are long, and his fingers are too. He has clipped and clean fingernails, and fairly slender hands and arms. He’s neither scarred nor roughed up in any way - he doesn’t seem like he’s lived any sort of hard-working life. He has a tattoo on the area between his pointer finger and thumb. It's a swirled piece of candy in a wrapper. He figures whoever his parents were might have given it to him, which is probably why they weren't fit to raise a baby.
Changed Appearance
Merari is half human and half lizardfolk, though the human part of him is more prominently visible. He has a pinched-looking face. It gives him a delicate look, though combined with other features one certainly wouldn’t call him attractive. His light skin has a certain greenish pallor to it, and along the sides of his face are actual scales, a vibrant forest green. He has no visible ears, and his nostrils are flared slightly. His mouth is a bit wider than what a human would have, he has slightly pointed teeth, and his tongue is extremely lizard-like. He has thin, smooth eyebrows in black which look almost like lines drawn onto his face. Under these are particularly round eyes with pupils like a lizard’s, thin and vertical. His eyes are dark, earthy green with a vivid lime color right around the pupils. The irises fill up nearly his entire eyes, leaving very little whites visible. He has a tall and very human jawline which adds height to his face. He does have hair, which is black with a green sheen. It’s rather wild and runs in strands down his face, and nearly touches his shoulders in the back. When he gets the chance he’ll comb it down as best he can, but it doesn’t stay very well. He has slight sideburns which sort of mingle with the scales, coming to an end right before his chin. In his hair he has a ridge of green-scales frills which extends down to right above his neck.
Merari stands at 6’3” and is slightly underweight at around 200 lbs. He has a thin look to him, but isn’t totally stringy. His arms and legs are fairly long, and he has long fingers as well. These fingers end in animalistic black claws. His entire ribcage area, back, shoulders, arms, and calves are covered in green scales, slightly larger than the ones on his face. There a slight ridges of spikes from his shoulder blades to his lower back. His toenails, like his fingernails, are pointed and sharp, but he often cuts them to stubs so he can easily fit them into his shoes. His candy tattoo remains the same.
Voice
Merari has a fairly full and mature voice in an American accent. He tends to speak with a slight edge to his voice, and his tone is constantly dry. He usually has a pretty even voice unless he’s overcome with any particular emotion. He speaks fairly quietly and has the kind of voice that makes people constantly suspect he’s being sarcastic.
Attire
Merari wears rectangular black glasses, though often he’ll switch to contacts instead. He doesn’t usually care too much about clothing, but usually he’ll go for a fancier look to come off as sharp and mature. Sometimes he’ll do an unbuttoned suit jacket over a button-up white shirt with no tie. But since he gets cold very easily, usually he’ll go for the white shirt and a black overcoat, as well as a grey or muted scarf. He always wears white slip-on shoes. When he’s by himself, or he doesn’t feel like he has the energy to get all dressed up, he likes to wear large patterned sweaters, sweatpants, and thick socks. But this isn’t the sort of outfit that people usually see him in.
Jewelry/Accessories
Merari isn’t the kind of person who really likes to wear jewelry. But he does have a faux-golden cross on a chain around his neck which he always wears. He also has a watch on his right hand, a simple but refined-looking one with a black strap.

Personality
Merari can’t stand to be treated badly, and he doesn’t bend or break to other people’s wills. He won’t let himself be pushed around by anyone, physically, verbally, or any other way. From the first moment he meets someone, he’s counting the seconds until they stop respecting him. He can handle being disliked, and he can handle pissing people off. What he can’t handle is being pitied. He’s quick to become aggressively temperamental and confrontational with people who humor him or treat him like he’s a kid. He reacts extremely badly to being made fun of, and it’s the quickest way to make him lose his temper. He sometimes takes offense at things that weren't meant to be hurtful. But what makes him the angriest of all is when people lie to him to protect him. He wants to be told everything in brutal honesty, and for people to assume he won’t be crippled by the weight of bad news. He constantly suspects people of lying to him, and is extremely paranoid. He tells the truth, though he does sometimes go out of his way to be insulting about it - after, telling the truth isn’t the same as saying every offensive thing that comes to your mind. He’ll always defend himself by saying he’s just telling it like it is, which of course often makes things far worse for him. He has a dry and often unkind sense of humor, and a macabre repertoire of jokes which are vaguely disturbing and uncomfortable.
Despite the fact that he’s undeniably rude and at times outright mean, he’s not the kind who is constantly causing trouble and provoking people. He knows his limitations, after all, and if he’s going to get into a fight it should be for a good reason. He tends to be a quiet person, preferring not to interact with people if he’s not directly involved. He acts like an outside observer, or sometimes like a commentator, muttering a few dry remarks to himself as things unfold. Recently, because of the depth of empathy he's been given, he's grown even more impatient with people's feelings. He's felt the bitterest anger, the deepest sadness, the true darkness of guilt, and he simply can't take surface emotions seriously anymore. Including his own.
Even though he’s a terrible person to try and get along with in day-to-day interactions, he has a different big-picture attitude. He’s quick to give to charity and volunteer. He’s a straight-laced kind of guy, a law-abiding citizen who holds himself up to high moral standards. He can be simultaneously generous and yet absolutely cold with people. It makes him feel good to give, but there’s a lot more to it than that. It also makes him feel powerful to give, and it makes him feel safe to know he’s a good person, so nothing terrible can happen to him.
Merari has an odd habit of opposing the emotions of those around him. In other words, he makes an effort to balance them out. If they’re angry, he becomes surprisingly still and calm. This is especially alarming if he starts a fight which escalates, and he suddenly becomes cold and calculating when he was a raging mess a moment ago. When others are happy, he becomes surly and irritable. This is especially true in large festive environments, where he gets worn out and tired quickly. When others are sad, he becomes smirkingly dismissive and incredulous of what he considers an overreaction. There are very few instances where he’s genuinely happy with people, because he just doesn’t feel comfortable with that - not around people he’s not close with. And it’s rare, too, to find him being genuine with someone. He’s truthful, yes, and he displays his feelings fairly openly, but the only thing he won’t be is sad. He rarely apologizes, but he knows when things have gone too far, and he backs off when that happens.
The thing Merari has always been obsessed with is the occult and supernatural. Maybe it has to do with the fact that he was diagnosed with terminal illness at a young age, and so the concept of life after death held a special fascination for him. Every story about what happens to people when they die, ideas of ghosts, vampires, zombies, Heaven and Hell, all afterlives and undead creatures from all myths and cultures. That’s what he’s always been obsessed with. As a weakened person who frequently visited the hospital, he occupied himself mostly with reading these stories and drawing pictures of them. He’s a true believer, quite certain that things unseen and unexplainable exist in the world. He’s experienced a few himself. He’s always had an odd feeling of not really belonging anywhere, and the only thing he felt connected to were these stories. Death itself is something he has a strange attitude towards. He’s afraid of it like everyone else is, but he also has a defeated acceptance, and seems to have come to terms with the idea that he’s going to die. He wants to die with dignity and nobility, and he’s certain that the day is going to be soon. So he has to live every day knowing it could be his last, so that when it does come it won’t surprise or frighten him.

Posture
Merari holds himself with quiet pride. He doesn’t necessarily stand proud with shoulders back, but he doesn’t slump, either. Which is notable because of the rest of his posture, the way he tends to keep hands in pockets, lurk near the edges of conversations, and keep his head down. Despite all of that, he always stands up straight.
Powers
Though he wasn’t born with powers, Merari was transferred a portion of Darsey’s powers through a strange interaction they had. This includes super health and magical empahy. Though he still doesn’t know who she is, he knows that someone came to him on the night he thought he was going to die. He knows he survived, but he was given these powers, which he sees as a curse. Being forced to feel people’s emotions, and not knowing how to deal with it, he’s constantly struggling to balance out what he’s feeling and figure out what emotions are even his.

Physical Health
Merari was diagnosed with a terminal illness at a very young age, and it’s been crippling for him at times. He's been in and out of the hospital for a lot of his life. But only a few months ago this changed majorly. He's now gifted with supernatural health, so he's in peak physical condition, though definitely not toned or fit.
Mental Health
Merari will say that he has his problems, but not anymore than anyone else. Not enough to bother with a therapist. Truthfully, he does have a lot to deal with, and it only got worse once he received his empathy powers. With such an overload of feelings, and the anger issues he’s had for a long time, he’s worried that some sort of emotional breakdown is on the horizon.
Immune System
His immune system has always been awful, but since his life was saved it's essentially perfect. It hasn't really been long enough for him to know, but he's nearly incapable of getting sick.
Allergies
These too were eradicated with the powers, so no allergies for him!
