Nernan looked up at his father as he called the now grown pups forward to ask them their duties. For the last year, they had trained in several aspects; hunter, guard, some Sky Reader, even omega. He wasn't too surprised when two of the pups were assigned to the omega position. After all, one was the daughter of an Omega. He was surprised when the Beta announced her retirement. He had thought that she would become a hunter or a guard like other betas he had learned about.
"Nernan, come forward," Koasiero called, making the three year old male jump slightly before padding up to the rock. "I hope I have served my pack well in my years of Alpha, but it is time for me to retire to my hunter rank. Nernan, my son, promise me on your life that you will serve and protect this pack as I and my ancestors before me have."
"I promise," Nernan barked loudly and clearly.
"Then by my power as lead Alpha, I announce you to be Koainernan!" Many cheers rose up as his father concluded the ceremony. Koainernan took a deep breath before climbing up to the Alpha's Stone. He already knew who would be his beta, as long as he accepted.
"As Alpha of Koa Pack, I announce my new Beta to be Yisala Gilo! My brother, do you accept and promise to be loyal to me and this pack and to protect my legacy of Alpha if I die before my time?" he called out and looked down at the spotted white male.
"I promise," his brother responded and took his place at the foot of the large slanted boulder. Koainernan nodded to his brother and then climbed down to signal the ceremony was over. A few of the wolves glanced at him and talked among each other. He knew he left out a piece of the ceremony, but he wasn't ready to have a mate yet. He wasn't ready to go out fully on his own.
