Biography
Lemon Tiger Crocus was found alone as a very young pup by the Nilgai Pack. She was adopted by Thuelos and given the name Tale. She was an amazing hunter, to the extent that some in her pack wondered if she was perhaps not the pup of a mortal wolf, but instead a gift from the moon goddess Mene for the pack.
Teos was from a neighbouring pack and was around her own age. They quickly became close, and they became mates when they were still both juveniles. He moved to her pack, quickly finding his place there and making friends.
They had planned on staying there. She had a family, a sense of purpose, a place in her pack and in life. He was getting used to there quickly, and loved it as much as the pack he grew up in. But then she met Ollie. He was a wolfdog, more dog than wolf, new in the area and looking for a home.
The legends said that dogs were the villainous Ekleike's attempt at twisting wolves to her will and making companions for her human followers. Nilgai Pack found Ollie and turned him away. They would not allow a dog on their land, even if he had wolf blood as well.
It wasn't right, Tale had realized as she watched him leave sorrowfully, tail drooping and followed by low growls. Turning on her pack, she snarled at them that this was wrong. When that didn't work, she couldn't stay. She shared a glance with Teos and saw the same righteous anger in his eyes. They did not have to speak. He crossed the border first, with her right behind, bounding after Ollie, they caught up and walked beside him.
"You didn't have to," he said, and he was right. Nothing was making her make that choice, and perhaps it had done no true good, it certainly hadn't gotten the pack to let Ollie stay... but it was the right thing to do.
The three of them stuck together, planning on making their own pack. Unfortunately, it never worked out.
It quickly became clear that, when actually faced with decisions, none of the three of them did well. They argued about little things – where to live, what to eat, when to move on or stay. They cared about each other but they couldn't agree on things. Bitterness began to form, and they were on the verge of just giving up and each going their separate ways.
Luckily, they met European Goldenrod and Snowdrop then. They were a newer pack, but at least they knew what they were doing. Goldy had a dream and a plan to get there. She knew just the right mixture of listening to others while avoiding indecisiveness, and made a great leader.
The three of them joined her and Snowdrop and chose new names, following the flower theme. Tale became Lemon Tiger Crocus, Teos became Danyang Aster, and Ollie became Swaying Himalayan Aster.
Lemon Tiger Crocus and Danyang Aster quickly realized that being mates didn't work for them. They stopped, but managed to remain friends.
Lemon Tiger Crocus eventually had two pups, Saffron Crocus and Field Bindweed. She loved them deeply and is incredibly proud of the wolves they grew to be.
Lemon Tiger Crocus now holds the rank of Knight, even though she is one of the oldest wolves in the pack. She jokes that she'll keep her rank until she drops dead while exploring, and the pack knows that that's likely going to be the case.
