Biography
Danyang Aster was born in the Silver Cascade Pack, along with two littermates. He had the name Teos back then. His name meant "divine", a reference to the exceptionally large full moon on the night of his birth, believed by his pack to mean he was blessed by the moon goddess Mene.
Teos was exceptionally wise and had a very good memory, having memorized many of the pack's story even by the young age that he left the pack.
Tale was from a neighbouring pack, Nilgai Pack, and was around his own age. They quickly became close, and they became mates when they were still both juveniles. He moved to her pack, quickly finding his place there and making friends.
They had planned on staying there. It was wonderful there, full of plants more green and bright than he would of imagined, and he had quickly made friends. Tale, too, liked it there, and didn't like the idea of leaving all she'd ever really known. But then he met Ollie. He was a wolfdog, more dog than wolf, new in the area and looking for a home.
The legends said that dogs were the villainous Ekleike's attempt at twisting wolves to her will and making companions for her human followers. Nilgai Pack found Ollie and turned him away. They would not allow a dog on their land, even if he had wolf blood as well.
Teos felt a rush of sympathy as he watched Ollie walk away, rejected by a pack he'd hoped to befriend. It was Tale who acted first – turning on the pack and snarling at them that this was wrong. When that didn't work, she shared a glance with Teos and he saw the same righteous anger in her eyes that he felt burning inside of himself. They did not have to speak, a decision was made in that shared glance and shared fury. He crossed the border first, with her right behind, bounding after Ollie, they caught up and walked beside him.
The three of them stuck together, planning on making their own pack. Unfortunately, it never worked out.
It quickly became clear that, when actually faced with decisions, none of the three of them did well. They argued about little things – where to live, what to eat, when to move on or stay. They cared about each other but they couldn't agree on things. Bitterness began to form, and they were on the verge of just giving up and each going their separate ways.
Luckily, they met European Goldenrod and Snowdrop then. They were a newer pack, but at least they knew what they were doing. Goldy had a dream and a plan to get there. She knew just the right mixture of listening to others while avoiding indecisiveness, and made a great leader.
The three of them joined her and Snowdrop and chose new names, following the flower theme. Tale became Lemon Tiger Crocus, Teos became Danyang Aster, and Ollie became Swaying Himalayan Aster.
Lemon Tiger Crocus and Danyang Aster quickly realized that being mates didn't work for them. They stopped, but managed to remain friends.
When a pup was eventually found abandoned on their border, Danyang Aster decided to adopt hir despite being quite old by that point. He named hir Ox-Eye Daisy. Ze eventually grew up and became a Ranger, and Danyang Aster is deeply proud of hir.
Danyang Aster now holds the rank of Elder, although he was a Knight when he was younger. He's happy for the chance to tell stories and share his wisdom, and he loves playing with and helping take care of the pups.
