Biography Nightingale was the youngest pup of her 3 siblings and was only with her original pack for 3 weeks. She was born in the midst of the worst winter her pack had ever seen, food was scarce and everyone, including her mother was painfully thin. The snow tore at their matted fur and the howling wind sunk into their bones. In the first week of her life, 2 of her siblings died, the bitter cold proved to be too much for their vulnerable bodies to cope with.
By the second week, their mothers condition had begun to deteriorate, the strain of too little food and pups to feed had taken it's toll on her fragile frame. She could not provide enough nutrition for Nightingale and her brother, and the fateful decision was made, to sacrifice the pups for their mothers survival. At the end of the second week, the pups were placed at the base of an ancient, leafless willow tree, with a a final farewell lick, their mother darted away into the shadows.
They were completely alone for the first time in their short lives and the wild weather was unforgiving of their situation. Nightingale stayed curled around her brother for 6 days. By the third, her brother became sickly and weak. By the fifth, he died peacefully in the night. Despite this, she stayed with him, crying into the night sky for help until starvation and exhaustion caught up with her. Resigning to her fate, she collapsed, a single tear cascading down her face.
Roma had been out hunting when she discovered the young pup lying deathly still in the snow. Upon further investigation, she found that Nightingale was still alive, and took her and hr brother back to the pack. She was their first rescue and it took months for her to recover. Nightingale remembers very little of this time, aside from the agony of grief and a comforting lick on her head.
