Typhon's Story
Now, here's a story you will want to sit down for.
It was quite a beautiful morning. Birds chirped, rabbits nibbled at the fresh grass, and butterflies glowed in the vibrant sun. Not a cloud in sight. As beautiful as it was, there was a little something that made the morning light better. For a young pup was born. A pup full of spirit, and excitement. Excitement for the new world. And that pup...was me.
Hello! I'm Typhon. Now, are you ready for this story?
It was cold. Unlike the day I had come into this world. I shivered, as small hail balls rocked on my coat. Clinging on, afraid. Afraid if they let go, they would be forgotten. Much like myself. If I give in, I will be forgotten. I walked to a small mound of snow and sat down. There were no trees, no brush, just a white field. Like paper. I watched over the plains, taking sight of any creature that fearfully passed through. There were a few squirrels that danced over the blanketed plains. But nothing big enough to feed a whole pack. Winter had just begun. And so far, our pack would not survive.
At last, it was night. I hoped things would look up. I followed the pack into the den, but something caught my eye. Something big. I hoped it were an elk, or moose. My eyes gleamed. I chased it. I hopped over tree roots and slid under bushes. Nothing would stop me. Or so I thought. Right as I was about to pounce, something flew in front of me. I fell to the ground landing on some sticks and moss. I was mad. Mad at whatever had stopped me from saving my family. I growled and yelled ''Show yourself!'' Yet no response. I looked around. As I turned I saw a glimpse of a wing. It was circling around me, dodging between tree branches. But somehow staying out of sight. I never took my eyes off it. ''You know, I helped you. Saved you from the jaws of terror.'' I was confused as it spoke to me. ''I have hunted moose billions of times, elk no less.'' I responded. ''Who said it was any type of deer? Or a..normal animal.'' I looked at the winged animal circling me, then the tracks on the ground. The mysterious creature was right. The tracks weren't hoofed or tiny paws. But paws bigger than my own head. They clearly belonged to a wolf. I studied the tracks. The bird then landed next to me. A snowy owl. I looked at him in surprise. ''Well you're not something I see every day. What's your name?'' The owl paused for a moment. ''My name is Link.'' The owl seemed upset. ''Link, eh? I'm Typhon. Such a strange name, I know.'' I continued to study the tracks. Link didn't talk much. He was quite shy. So usually I was the one who started conversations. With time, we became good friends. He helped me hunt, and I helped him catch food. I never spent time with my pack. I was always taking walks with Link. The food I caught, I would bring to my pack so they didn't starve. Maybe this winter, is looking up after all.
''SHE'S GONE!'' I couldn't catch my breath. I kept running..and running. No matter how many prey I passed. I. would. not. stop. My heart ached and my legs shivered. But I pushed on. I thought I could make it. It seems I have overestimated my own strength. The last thundering step I took, my body seemed to malfunction. But I'm not a machine. I fell on the ground. I couldn't see anything around me, for it was dark. I shook and howled. I felt as if I wasn't in control. If I was, I would still be running. I could hear my heart beating. It was fast. Eventually everything stopped. Including my heart. A few hours passed. I opened my eyes just enough to see where I was at. I saw Link. And Selene. Even Sealy was there. ''You're still young. Yet, crazy enough to run miles and miles till you reach the den. Don't worry, we heard the call too. Mom will be fine.'' Selene spoke with a soft voice. Then I could see Sealy scuffing and rolling her eyes. Erm don't be surprised by that. The next few days, Link and my sisters took care of me. They said I had a seizure or something. I'm just happy to be alive.
Spring. My favorite time of year. Everything bloomed. It was beautiful. The pack survived through winter. New pups were born, and I, well I have started to hunt on my own.
If it weren't for everyone who helped me through my journey to be where I am right now, I wouldn't be here. Every wolf, and owl..I have come across is special to me. And nothing will change that. ~Typhon
