Ah, how the days have flown by. Nightbreeze is now a senior warrior, and with Cedarstar getting old, he has been chosen as the leader's successor. After a journey to the Moonlight, he has gained a new name: Nightstar.

Nightstar glanced at his reflection in the river. His gray muzzle was a clear sign that he was getting old and frail, and that soon, he would step down from his Alpha position and hand it to his successor.
Nightstar sighed. He remembered how back then, when he was just a pup, that his sister was stolen by a rogue pack and later on, killed midway through her life. Even though he knew that the pack took great care of her, forcing his sister to end her life early is definitely immoral.
Nightstar looked up at the sky. He remembered the days when the first female Alpha of his pack had praised him for his bravery. He remembered the pride of seeing his grandmother become Windcrest's next female Alpha, and the joy of becoming the next male Alpha himself when Cedarstar's gaze landed on him with a glow of rare warmth, hidden behind the former leader's icy cold eyes.
"Nightstar?" A voice suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Nightstar turned around, and saw the glistening white pelt of Whitestar, the current female Alpha of Windcrest.
She padded towards him with concern. "Are you alright?" She asked.
Nightstar blinks, clearing his thoughts. "Yeah, I'm fine," He replied, glancing at Whitestar briefly before returning his focus to the river.
A moment of silence passed. "It's just that... I can't believe my life is coming to an end," Nightstar finally spoke with a hint of sadness.
Whitestar laughed softly. "Well everyone will go someday. But don't be scared or sad. Your life was very bright and full of happiness. You did a lot for the pack."
Nightstar lifted his gaze to look at Whitestar. He found her words comforting. "Indeed..." He sighed again, and a stretch of silence followed afterwards.
Nightstar heaved himself up to his paws, and stopped abruptly, as he caught a glimpse of Shadowblaze chatting away with Chestnutfall as they headed out for a quick hunt. "I must choose a leader soon, since I just turned 14 a few moons ago. I don't have much time left," he commented.
Whitestar nodded, glad that he changed the topic. "Who do you have in mind?"
Nightstar kept on staring at Shadowblaze and Chestnutfall. He lifted his muzzle and pointed at them. "Those two senior warriors. They are the best two fighters and hunters in Windcrest, so it has to be one of them."
Whitestar followed his direction and studied each warrior carefully. "If you were to pick the next leader out of the two, who would you pick?" she asked.
Nightstar didn't respond. After a moment, he replied firmly, "Shadowblaze. He's more well-rounded than Chestnutfall, and has trained more young warriors."
"That's a wise choice," Whitestar agreed. "So Shadowblaze it is. However, if he doesn't seem to be performing well, Chestnutfall can replace him anytime."
Nightstar turned to face Whitestar. "True. But for now, it'll be Shadowblaze. I'll hold the ceremony tomorrow at dawn."

And so it is decided. Shadowblaze will become the 5th male Alpha of Windcrest, and Nightstar will retire to reside in the elders' den.
