So this is how it ends. My name is Getalenteerd. Bought, named, and bred for my talents, I have spent my life chasing a dream that could never be mine. I was old when I was bought, and Tijger was little more than a pup. I've lived my life with this pack, for so long that I don't remember my old one. I've seen many battles, killed so much prey, fathered many pups. And yet... something is missing.
I don't know what that something is, and my time is running out. Right now, I am on the edge of death. Just one more year and I may die, on a day that all wolves dread. I do not understand our system, our way of ending lives. It's too routine. Too... automated. Too... unnatural.
In my old age, I think of an old friend. Grijs. I hear that his name is Sparrow now. The founder of this pack, sold off to make some more money. He left us in the paws of good wolves, but I miss him more every day. He's just a little older than me, he's eligible for death. I hope that he has more years ahead of him, but my thoughts are grim. I won't know when he's dead, and that pains me even more.
