Retter sat on the riverbank, gazing into his reflection with such intensity one would assume him to be in a staring contest in which his life was on the line. His piercing green eyes studied his unique appearance, taking in every detail from his large ears to his long tail. It was strange, looking at oneself and seeing what everyone else saw. The last time he had paid this much attention to himself had been when he was a mere pup. As he took in his appearance, he couldn't help but notice just how much he had changed since that fateful night nearly two months ago. An air of independence encased his movements, one that had never been there before. It was almost as if he were an entirely new wolf.
As he gazed into his reflection, a piercing shriek was emitted from above his head, causing him to wince as the painful sound reached his sensitive ears. Once the ringing faded from his head, he glanced up, only to catch sight of a flurry of white and gray feathers. His jaws parted in a silent yelp of surprise as he sprang backwards to escape the attacker. After several seconds of ridding feathers from his mouth, his gaze travelled upwards, eyeing a flock of ravens cautiously. (To be continued)
