Pugnator is the second eldest cousin, eldest child of Satis. He doesn't understand his grandmothers, Enola's, hatred of him. He doesn't have green eyes, unlike Bellum, so why is he hated so? It is the stigma of green eyes that makes the wolves evil, so why is he treated like he is of the green-eyed? His mother treated him with a kindness that was almost unusual, but then she treated his younger sisters with that same kindness. Others offered him pity, and a form of protection against the ferocity and attacks that his grandmother stationed against him. Only after her death was he told why, exactly, he was hated so.
He can't help but admit he was disappointed that the crimes of another were his to suffer for.
