a prominent social figure of a somewhat scandalous upbringing, countess esclarmonde was granted her lands by the king himself, who she views as an older brother. an older brother who slaughtered her entire family, of course, but everybody has to do something to get to power, right? her pack had refused to bow to king hollyhock when he ascended to the throne, so he made an example of them, and made esclarmonde, the only surviving member of the family, his ward and granted her their lands. her resentment towards him was dutifully ignored in pursuit of wealth and power, and it paid off, as she is now the king's closest advisor and right hand man on the battlefield.
