Biography Estrella
The stars twinkled brightly against the obsidian sky. The white light caught her fur and bounced across the snowy ground. Estrella wandered across the clearing, the tall grass blades swaying in the cool night breeze. She watched a tiny baby bunny flounce across the thin trail, its back legs skidding across a patch of ice. She giggled and nosed it to its feet and it hopped away with a squeal. Estrella sighed and trotted along, her paws frozen and packed with snow. It had been 2 moons since her sister had died in a tragic hunting accident. After the incident, Estrella distanced herself from the pack, slowly traveling further away each night. She always returned to the den before the sunrise, it didnt feel right to leave them, but she never felt right being there either. The nightly strolls stretched further and further away, and she learned a little more about the world around her each time. Her sisters grave rested on the opposite side of camp, and she never ventured to that side of the territory.
The accident was her fault. She always knew it, even though no one ever blamed her. The other pack members always showed sympathy and gave her space. She had yet to go hunting since it happened, and avoided killing any living thing. All she had to do was cut off the herd. Stop the stampede and allow the big wolves to strike the weak bison. But she was too slow, the terrain threw her off balance and she stumbled. Her sister was in front of the herd waiting for them to slow down, but they never did. She was dead before the dust cleared and anyone found her. Estrella avoided the burial and chose to quit hunting until she healed emotionally. It felt like forever ago.
She reached the edge of a still lake. The water was dark blue, and the stars reflection shimmered against the bold color. Estrella watched the moon glide across the still surface, and leaned to lap up the water. As it cooled her tongue, the ripples shattered the serenity of the water, disrupting the perfect reflection. Her eyes traces a star as it shot across the sky and disappeared on the far side of the lake. This was the furthest she had ever wandered. The furthest she could go and still turn back. She felt the call to go forward. But she eventually turned away and hurried back to her den.
The next morning, the air was different. Estrella could sense that she was expected to return to normal; to join hunting parties and commit to the pack. She avoided others all day, eager for the cover of night. This time when she met the lakes edge, she took a step. The waters surface rippled and the stars reflection disappeared. She was forced to look up, and the night sky greeted her eyes with brilliant light. She felt a calm overcome her, and she swiftly drew away from shore. Her slim body glided across the pristine water, and she faded away into the night.
