If asked, she would consider herself to be misunderstood.
A lot of the misconceptions came from her name. Just because she was named "chaotic" and "reckless" didn't mean that she was. She had her fair share of caution and thoughtfulness. She could be careful. Damn what others say.
Okay. Maybe that claim might be a little off. True, Midari could be careful. But she chose not to be. And damned what others said she could do and not do. She loved the chaos. Lived for it. Lived on it. It was thrilling to do what she wasn't supposed to do. To rebel against what others said.
And gods did it feel amazing to live life on the edge. To risk your life at every moment. Not knowing if after exploration mission how injured you'd be. It just made her want to live for more, despite the irony.
Though, her recklessness and masochist tendencies did come with a cost. And not one she had thought to be indebted for.
You see, friends, she might've fell in love. Or, whatever weird concept of love she thought it was. Sure, Midari was a flirt, which caused many to have an affinity of between like and strongly like directed towards her, but there was one that she especially infatuated with.
She liked her from the very beginning. Her gleaming dark pelt highlighted with contrasting whites. The deep gold eyes. Her mistrust towards others, barely liking any of the other packmates.
That just caught Midari's attention more. To be liked by someone who didn't like others, let alone someone older than you, and posed a potential threat was an honor, especially when it was a fine soul such as hers.
She just intended to be "friends" where really Midari wanted to eventually use the other as a pawn. But spending long nights and days, stupid walks, and intimate conversation sessions left Midari extremely confused.
Midari started to subconsciously look for the other every hour that they didn't spend together. Started to think about their conversations and dissect the meanings of each word. She found herself spacing out and staring into golden abysses. She realized she could probably spend her whole life with this other soul.
Was this love? Midari was far from qualified to know what love was, let alone be wrapped up in it. She heard stories, yes, but only slivers of them. And stories were completely different from genuinely feeling the emotion.
Was love the feeling of wanting a soul to follow you into the abysses? To follow you no matter what you did? Was love the feeling of a twisted commitment where one party must devout their life to their partner just to keep both sides 'happy'?
Or was love the feeling of butterflies in your stomach with one glance at them? The unwavering trust both parties have for each other? The understood commitment both parties must make in order to be happy?
Perhaps. But maybe Midari will never know.
For now, Midari's concept of 'love' is wanting for the other soul to follow her, even if she fucked up. It was a silent acknowledgement that both sides would kill to keep the other safe. And it was the raging fear that the other didn't know Midari likes her.
But that was fine for now. Because as long as Michi kept following, Midari would keep leading. Into the abysses. And into the end of the worlds.
