Her second litter daughter Ember got sick and died at the age of 2. Her third litter had one stillborn pup, Brassling, who Sunpelt mourned greatly. This caused her to resent the living pup, Copperstrike, who Sunpelt treats with the same coldness she shows Scorchfur.

Sunpelt and Sandfoot are a lot alike. Both are usually quiet and reserved, with a hidden strength. Sunpelt is a little smarter than Sandfoot however, and often has the final say on any decisions. Sunpelt is extremely prickly, although she has taken on a mentor role for Pinenose and Maria because she can see a bit of herself in them. Conversely, she views Scorchfur and Barkclaw with barely concealed disdain. This stems from her discomfort that one day she will have to step down and cede power to them. Sunpelt is chilly towards the males of the pack, as she believes they would not respect a female unless the female demands it. The only exceptions to this are her mate and Splintertooth, mainly because the latter is submissive in addition to being useful.
