Biography A pair of burning topaz orbs had appeared in the darkest corner of the cave, a darkly-hued she-wolf being their owner. She sat, awaiting anyone to dare try and approach her. Juveniles - usually yearlings - entered this cave in particular almost daily, and she loved to tell them... tales. Whether they believed such a thing to be true or not is another question. Although, upon this day, a yearling that visited often strode in, a youngster by their heels.
"W-What about the evil wolf that lives in here?" The juvenile questioned, and Erude - the she-wolf - felt herself almost deflate. So she was truly thought of as completely evil, at least by this juvenile?
"No, no! The she-wolf here is part of our pack! You mustn't disrespect others of your pack." The yearling replied, their own luminaries traveling through the darkness, until they fell upon the gaze of Erude. "Ah, there you are! I've brought my sibling to hear a story of yours." The young wolf seemed to be without fear, and this alone caused the topaz-eyed fae to emerge from the darkness, cloaked in shadows.
"Very well. I am Erude, as you may have heard. You wish to hear one of my stories?" The juvenile merely nodded, cowering away. "I will tell you of a time when I was young, and was almost punished for a very terrible crime. It started on a hot summer day, and I was merely traveling throughout our territory. I was very young, perhaps only two years at this point."
"Really? I didn't know you were young!" The juvenile interrupted, tilting its head.
"R-Regardless, as I walked I was beginning to hear speech. W-Words. From voices I didn't recognize, although I assumed it was because there were so many of them speaking they were becoming muddled. I walked closer like the foolish, young she-wolf I had been. I was so shocked I almost ran away when I saw what was before me.
"Four wolves, all strangers, were huddled around a wolf from our pack. A pup, lost and alone. The juvenile had not managed to find its way back to our packs camp, and must have stumbled upon the group after hearing the voices. The poor thing was terrified, being surrounded by strangers. They were all... grinning--"
"Grinning? What is that?" The juvenile interrupted once more. A sharp look from the yearling had them quiet for a few moments, before continuing again with their questions. Or, at least, trying to. "But--"
"Enough! M-May I finish? Good. They were h-huddled around the pup, and I knew I had to do something. I charged out of the brush I had been hiding within, shouting that more of the pack was on their way to chase out the intruders. It sent them scurrying away, and I was left with the p-pup. She allowed me to carry h-her, and on our way b-back to camp, a patrol of wolves found us!"
"Why is that a problem?" The pup once more spoke, this time their maw being clamped shut by the yearling, whom appeared enthralled.
"They thought that the petrified look upon the pups face was because of me! They thought I was going to hurt it!" Erude spoke, her voice softening and yet filling the cave she had made her dwelling. "They took the pup from me, and were about to punish me for crimes I did not commit, had it not been for the loyalty of that pup. They spoke up, and told the wolves of the entire event, just as I had." Erude paused for a moment, seemingly entering the deep recesses of her mind.
Without a word, she stood and turned, as if to go further back, into the cave. If only the wolves knew that there was in fact an exit back there where she left and entered the den. Just as she heard the yearling ushering the pup out, the topaz-orbed damsel turned her head slightly to speak softly, yet her words tumbled down the cave until they reached the audits of the leaving lupines.
"Let that be a lesson. Do not judge anyone before you know the story."
