-Shakina darts around thickets with the ease and precision of a hare.

Shakina sat on a snow covered ledge above the rest of the pack sprawled below. She watched with a mother's eye how the pups scrambled and played with each other, growling and biting one another playfully. One of the little boys down there was one of her own, but the other two she and Inquisitor did not bear themselves, but rather adopted them into the pack when they saw them wandering alone. One of them was a little male who was blacker than black, his pelt nearly invisible at night. Caliban was his name, the little Melanistic pup. Shakina never once hesitated to take him in the second her eyes rested on his.
"Mother?" A soft voice asked. Shakina turned to see her daughter Shakira sidling up next to her.
"Yes?"
"I had my pups." she informed with a smile, but in her eyes there was sadness.
"Congratulations my darling!" Shakina said, licking her cheek. "How are they?"
"They are wonderful." she said sadly. "I found them new homes. They will surely live out their lives well. I-"
"New homes?" The Alpha female asked, confused.
"I did it for you, Mother." Shakira said, her tail starting to wag in the melting snow. "So you and Father could have more of your own. I made the hard choices for you and for the pack. I love you Mother, and I..." she trailed off, about to cry. "I wish I could be just like you." Shakina pulled her daughter close and hugged her, their paws resting on one another's.
"I love you too, Shakira." she whispered. "You are strong, and very brave. You don't have to wish to be like me...you already are."
