She stalks you, her shadow against your fur. She knows you. She watches you. She hunts you. One day she will strike. ~Kohana
Rusty ran wildly, her heart pounding in her chest. She had to escape. The wolf gulped, not daring to look behind her. They had to be gone by now. She was so focused that she ran right into someone. “Oops.” She smiled nervously, backing away from the female.
“Hello what are you doing?” The wolf asked, peering at her with vibrant green eyes. Rusty looked around, noticing a pack surrounding the female and her.
“I’m Rusty. I was trying to escape the hunters.” Rusty whined. The wolf nodded, sitting down.
“I am Kohana, Alpha of pack Shadow Hunters. We will welcome you if you accept this challenge.” The older wolf growled. It wasn’t menacing, just low and powerful.
“I accept.” The younger wolf breathed. Kohana nodded again and stepped out of the circle. A male trotted over to the pup.
“I am Kimi, and I too am Alpha.” The wolf growled. He was smaller than the female but muscles rippled under his fur and he had obviously not become alpha by luck. “I am your challenge.” He howled, lunging at the pup. Rusty growled defensively, her teeth bared. The male swiped at her and she dodged his claws. Rusty reared onto her hind legs and collapsed on the alpha. He growled and whipped his head around, biting her thigh. She snapped and bit into the top of his neck. The two fell off of each other and Rusty darted away. She needed the cover of trees. She slunk between the foliage silently as Kimi searched. He walked past her without noticing and she jumped on him from behind. He howled in surprise and Kohana returned, followed by a young male.
“You have passed. With outstanding abilities. We’ve been looking for an heir for me. This is your future mate.” Kohana said, satisfied. Rusty smiled, excited by her new stature. “And we can’t keep you with a name like Rusty. We will name you after the pack. For you are our Shadowed Huntress.”
“And I’m Dustee Canyons.” The young male smiled shyly. He was handsome. Shadowed Huntress stood taller, admiring her future pack.
