Biography Everest squinted his eyes against the howling wind. Where was he even going? Ever since he had left his pack, about one moon ago, Everest had been wandering about pointlessly. Which, turned out to be a problem. He had no shelter, and no pack. The fact that a winter blizzard decided to add to his troubles was not great either. His original intent was to find the Wolf Party - but of course, what kind of idiot would be outside in this weather? Him, evidently. Everest, as hard is it was to admit, missed his pack. Will I ever find a pack? He thought to himself. They day I left - was that the fateful morning that I sentenced myself to death? He momentarily let his mind swoop into that future - he imagined his father, finding his lifeless body, frozen solid. What he do? Would he howl his grief? Or would he shake his head in grave disappointment, saying how he was right all along? Everest knew that it was probably the latter. But for now, he could pretend that wasn't true. He could pretend his Father loved him. Everest came back to reality and snapped his jaws in irritation. Keep it together, Everest, he told himself. You need to find shelter. And food. And water. And a pack. And - Everest surprised himself by laughing. "I am a mess aren't I? Who would actually want me in their pack?" He said aloud. The wind screamed in his ears, reminding him that he had more important things to do than pity himself. Like, for example, surviving the blizzard. That might be pretty important. Everest took a deep breath, and the cold air stabbed into his lungs. He was so lost. Nobody loved him, nobody even cared if he was alive or dead. He was alone. He had nobody to laugh with, nobody to comfort him. Everest considered just giving up. Letting himself die a lonely death, letting the blizzard freeze his body. Not that anyone would care. Everest closed his eyes, fighting back the wave of despair that threatened to engulf him. Just then, in the distance, a howl rose up into the air. Everest pricked his ears. Had he imagined it? Was he really that desperate? But the cry was as real. The voice that rose up in the air was grief-ridden and was so full of despair that it sent shivers down his spine. Everest rose to his paws slowly. Something sparked in his heart. Hope? The feeling was unfamiliar and inexorable. He mind dared to ask the question he had been longing to ask: Was - was he not the only one? Sudden joy surged through Everest. Everest tipped his head upwards to answer the call. He howled with all his heart, passion, and every ounce of the dwindling strength he had. He lowered his head to catch his breath. The other wolf had silenced. Everest raised his muzzle to the sky and let out another howl. There was no answer. Everest paused. Then, some strange instinct took over his body. It launched him forward into a run, even though Everest's conscious mind had no idea where they were going. But, just as Everest was about to give up, he saw a figure in the distance, bounding towards him. Joy washed over him and he put on a burst of speed. He wasn't alone! They nearly collided into each other, finally managing to break at the last second. Everest and the other wolf both stood stock still, nose to nose. The other wolf, with a coat of shining silver, eyes locked on his. She started past his mangled coat, through his ice-blue eyes, and pierced his very soul. Everest's heart was doing painful arial loops in his chest, and his voice caught in his throat. Although he barely noticed, their paws were touching. He felt his pulse jump, then match hers. They both said nothing. The other wolf, who's name would turn out to be Silver, smiled. A knot that he didn't know was in his heart unraveled. They both knew, that their fate was intertwined. In her, Everest saw his future. He was not alone anymore. He had found where he belonged. He had found his home. Because home, is not the place where you are born and die. Home is not where you live. Home, is who you are with. And Everest, was home.
