Biography
There had been a mate, once. He remembered her still. She came to him in his dreams. They had shared the joy of the hunt and the warmth of their bodies. He missed that warmth now, in his old age.
There had been other mates. Many, countless. After losing his one true mate, he had become restless. He had taken in young wolves who had been lost and in need of a territory. It was a good pack. No fights, much food. And then and again, a curious female had came closer, watching the males and choosing a mate for a night of a few. He had charmed some of them himself.
He still had a good voice. He still was heavy of frame, a force that could bring down even elk and musk ox. He still won the playful fights the younger males sometimes started, acting like pups. He still loved live.
That was what he told his mate when she visited his dreams. He licked her face, nuzzled into her soft fur, telling her he misses her but still wanted to stay a bit longer. One day, he would follow her. Until then, he would run and howl and hunt with joy.
