Character Description
Biography
Driven from his birth-pack at the tender age of one year, Tierney wandered alone in the snow. He shivered in the fierce cold, searching for a warm place to hide. After finally locating a hollow under some roots in the bank of an old, dry stream, he curled up with his black tail covering his nose. Sleep came slowly as he wondered what would become of him. He had never been alone before. He wondered how he would survive.

The next morning he awoke to the sun beaming down through the tree roots into his eyes. He blinked as he dumbly stared up into the sky. Where was he? Then everything came back to his memory.

His Alpha, his father, stood in front of him in the clearing. They were alone. His father spoke.

"Tierney. You are not like us. Your coat is not right. You will give the pack location away. You must leave, for the good of the pack."

Tierney was shocked. "But, where will I go? I can't hunt alone!"

"It doesn't matter. It would be better for you to die than to be the cause of the death of the pack!"

Tierney blinked as his memory faded and his eyes focused on the dry stream bed in front of him. He slowly crawled out of his makeshift den and stretched his stiff legs. He was so thirsty! He first looked upstream and then downstream. Unsure of which way to go, he whimpered. After a few more moments of uncertainty, he followed the dry sediment upstream, further into the mountains.

After walking until the sun was high overhead, he heard a wonderful sound. Water! He sprinted ahead and yelped with joy and relief to see the small pond that was formed by a beaver's dam. He trotted to the water's edge and drank his fill. After the ripples worked their way out of the water, he stared at his reflection.

His father was right. His fur was too different. If he had been one solid color, it would have been easier to hunt in the winter time at least! But no, he would not have that luxury. With legs and face bright and silvery, and body as black as onyx, he was easily spotted by would-be prey. How would he ever survive? If he could not remain unseen he would never have a successful hunt. Without hunting, he would die!

Thoughts whirling through his mind, he was suddenly snapped into awareness by a figure reflected in the water next to him. He jumped back with a yelp and stared at the wolf in front of him.

She was his exact opposite! Silver and black, like him, but with silver body and black legs and face. She must have a difficult time hunting as well, he thought. But she didn't look underfed. Her coat was shiny and her emerald-green eyes were bright and intelligent.

"Hello, Tierney." Her voice was smooth and low, drawing him in.

"H-how do y-y-" He stammered, unable to form a complete sentence.

"Oh, I know all about you," The she-wolf moved in closer to him, circling him slowly. Her tail brushed along his face. "I know you need help."

He just looked at her, dazed. He did need help. And she was so lovely! "Y-you want to h-help me?" He stuttered.

The she-wolf's eyes took an amused glint. "I want to join you. We shall make a pack together. It was meant to be."

"A pack..? Me? I can't lead a pack! I can't even hunt!" Tierney began backing away, overwhelmed.

She moved behind him to block his retreat. "I have been alone for a very long time, Tierney. I will teach you what you need to know. Now, come." She walked off into the forest.

Tierney stared after her, unsure of what to do. Then, resolving in his heart that he would not give up on life so easily, he trotted after the green-eyed she-wolf.
