Coeleste shuddered at the goosebumps covering his pale skin. His light, almost white hair fell over his emerald eyes messily. The empty corridoor was so eerie when the castle was dormant, the boy thought. Cobblestone covered the walls and floor, which was like ice beneath Coel's feet. He couldn't sleep, so he had decided to leave his bedchambers and wander; to look at the rooms and isles that he wasn't normally allowed to enter. Moonlight cascaded in from the stained glass windows, causing the stone to be hued with colour. The painted figures on the tapestries pinned to the walls seemed to stare down it him. He held his breath as he heard footsteps, and heavy chainmail clinking together. Coeleste knew they would be the night guards patrolling the halls from intruders. He also knew if they caught him wandering they would likely send him back to bed.
So, he dove neatly behind a crimson curtin covering a window. A ripple of fear made his heartbeat faster, but it soon slowed down as the guards went trudging pass his hiding spot. Letting out a breath of relief, he scanned the area to see if the coast was clear. He then stood up, brushed himself off, and scuttled away from behind the curtin while smiling.
The ten year old crept carefully, trying not to make a sound. He entered the oldest part of the castle through a creaky old oak door. He cringed as he opened it, the squeaky sound peircing his sensitive ears. He hoped that nobody had heard it other then him.
The old part of the Castle was cobblestone too, but faded red carpet lined the floor and a musky scent clung to the air. He dragged his fingers along a withered war banner, and sneezed as dust filled the air. Which was a bad idea, because as he took a heavy inhale, the debree went down his windpipe causing a coughing fit. Coel was extremely thankful that nobody lived in the old quarters anymore. I had been abandoned because of the damage that had been caused during the Long War. Two great Kings had clashed together. The Red King had a massive army of trained warriors, and he had defended his home. But the other King, the Black King - had wild dragons. Even though the Red King had won the battle in the end, there was still damage dealt to his lands, and Castle.
Coeleste took a heavy whiff of the scent of flickering flames that still lingered. He felt at home here, even though he didn't know why. Some of the cobblestone wall had been demolished; soot and heavy claw marks embedded into the grey stone. He ran his hand over the indents. A image of a massive, obisidan scaled beast filled his mind. Glowing amber eyes, the colour of bright flame. Coel wondered if that is what a dragon looked like. He had never seen one. After the attack, the Red King had ordered all dragons to be hunted down and killed. Even the small, tame ones. Even so, the green-eyed boy would've loved to meet one if they weren't extinct.
He stood staring out at the village. A catapult must've hit the wall in the attack, because there was a large window that had been knocked out, leaving a empty lookout hole. Coleste smiled as he watched the sun rise over the Kingdom. It was quite the sight to see, the sky was bathed in the colours of fire.
🔱 Oh, believe me. I'm a angel, I swear. The horns are only here to hold up my halo... 🔱
