You're not like the others. You're different- but in a very special way- You're just like your father. It's a pity you never met him- you two would have found your many shared passions.
She remembered her mother would always whisper such words to her when she was a young pup, still nestled against her mother's soft belly-fur, listening to her melodic heartbeat, soothing her- making her feel a rush of calm.
If only it could have always been that way.
From an early age, Annu was always taught to embrace her flaws, qualities which made her different from the rest- no matter what other wolves of their large, held pack of majestic hunters and huntresses. She had never met her father- though her mother told many stories of him and what he was like. Thus, she learnt she was not only similar to her father physically, but also in spirit.
From the moment she was brought into the world, many wolves disapproved of her- like with many other forms of albinism, she was born with a pure, unnaturally pale coat, with pale, seemingly emotionless pink eyes. As a result, many reacted out of fear, not by conscience. She was left out of games the pups of the pack would play. She would never be free of the endless teasing, disapproving, cold orbs that would linger over her. These served as constant reminders that she was different- and not in a positive way through other wolves eyes.
She was constantly put down by pack mates, which led to her extremely low self-esteem and confidence. She developed a severe paranoia of other wolves judgement's. It was as if other wolves acted like she was invisible- she was a mistake needed to be wiped clean.
Conditions only worsened late one night when she was around four moons old. The image of her mutilated, bloodied body being dragged carelessly away by a strange, two-legged creature, her lifeless, dead eyes fixed directly on her horrified daughter's own burned in her mind. It deeply scarred the young wolf for life, and things were never the same.
She was left on her own with no one. She had no friends, not even some of the very few acquaintances who were willing to stand by her side.
Her life with her birth pack grew worse, but how could something be much worse than losing a wolf you love? She served the pack as the Omega, everyone's one personal punching-bag. Someone for the pack members to acceptably snarl at, someone to put down when they weren't feeling well themselves. This became like a daily routine for the young female - for three years into her adulthood.
After three years, she had had enough. She seized control of her own destiny, running away with all the speed she could possess, never looking back.
